"Flavorful Caribbean food!"

October 2010 — "I’m not sure how much competition The Reef has with other Caribbean restaurants in Victoria but if you’re looking for a change in food, check out this restaurant. My friend and I were not planning on going to The Reef but the restaurant we wanted to go to, ended up being closed and we happened to be parked by The Reef, so we had lunch there. It has a really neat feel to it with all the Caribbean décor and the food is delicious! I had the Trini Roti with jerk chicken and it came with coleslaw on the side. The size of the roti was enormous and the flavour was perfect. In fact, for $10, I was able to have leftovers for lunch the next day. My friend ordered the coco prawns and we had the coconut water as well. Everything was amazing and I would absolutely go again and recommend this to my friends for a different flavour of food!"

"Out of the Ordinary!"

January 2010 — "3 of us walked in and we instantly felt like, "what a fun place to be". Reggae music was playing with lots of bright colours and distinct Caribbean islands décor all over the place. The seating ranged from booths to tables. They offered a range of different authentic west Indian cuisine dishes. We ordered 4 different items from the "small tings" section and shared them. Jamaican patty which was a pastry stuffed with spicy beef served with a mango chutney($4), J.A.H. Dip, Jalapeno, Spinach, artichoke & cheese dip with tortilla chips (S9), Coco Prawns are coated with toasted coconut and served with a mint avocado yogurt dip ($9) and the Island Crab Cakes, curry flavoured served with a lime Aioli sauce. ($9) They also brought us a warm basket of bread, the waitress called the buns "Johnny cakes" served with a mango butter. They were similar to a corn bread. Everything was very tasty. The flavours were intense but not overpowering. I would definitely go back and try other items on the menu because everything was out of the ordinary and sounded so interesting. I thought the prices were very reasonable as well. They had a good assortment of drink specials such as mojitos, rum punch, specialty beers and more. The server was friendly and attentive but not intrusive. The food arrived very quickly, served hot and nicely presented. I would definitely go back and try other items because everything was out of the ordinary."

January 2010 — "My only complaint about the Reef, is I'd like it to have a dance floor too. The Reggae had us dancing in our chairs all night. This very well may be our new go-to restaurant. The food was unbelievably good! I had the Jerk Tofu Roti wrap (score!), and they start your meal off with little fried bread balls, but I can't remember what they called them. I am dying to try the rest of the menu! I can't wait to go back!"

"good Jamaican fare"

August 2009 — "I was intrigued by the idea of going to the Reef; as a Carribean restaurant I was expecting to hear Bob Marley tunes and be served Red Stripe lager. Well the restaurant does not disappoint although it is a little bit more sophisticated. Situated on Yates street, it has a small outside area but we got a seat inside near the window. The restaurant has a great décor with vibrant colour paintings on the walls and a central bar. Plus good music been played and it gives a great first impression. Now to the menu and it is good. I went with the Island Thyme Chicken and it was huge! So big I could not finish my meal and that does not happen two often. The drinks menu is equally impressive and instead of trying one of the Jamaican beers like Red Stripe, our table went with a pitcher of their Reef rum punch. All their cocktails come either by the pitcher or glass and the punch was excellent, so excellent you just want to drink more and more. The restaurant also has a great website so check that out before you go."

BulletDescription

Enter the Reef and be transported to the Caribbean. In operation since 1999, the island atmosphere is created with warm colours and Caribbean textiles, not to mention authentic Caribean food and drinks. Kick back and enjoy a Red Stripe beer with some West Indian curry or island thyme chicken. They are also open for brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 3pm and feature items like jerk salmon Benny and Jamaica me crabby (curried crab cakes).
