January 2011 — "Clive’s Classic Lounge located in the Chateau Victoria is another hidden gem of the downtown are of Victoria. The décor is tasteful, warm and inviting. As we walked in the bartender and server greeted us with welcoming us into the lounge and to choose our table. The lounge has large leather chairs and two fireplaces to maintain the rich and warm atmosphere. Our server was highly efficient and was knowledgeable about the drinks and menu. She was busy but was very attentive to the details of our order.
They have a great cocktail menu with cocktails of the 1806 era to today; there is also a very nice wine and global beer list. The drinks are made with high end liquors and I noticed the soda was served from boutique bottles. I enjoyed the turkey club on cranberry flax bread and my partner had the halibut and chips, the presentation of the entrée’s is elegant and pleasing. They also feature a wonderful artesian international cheese culture list for a nice evening of wine and cheese pairing.
If you are looking for a relaxing and intimate evening, I recommend Clive’s Classic Lounge; for you and a friend or friends or just by yourself to curl up by the fireplace with a good book and a nice glass of red wine, one of their extensive cocktails or great coffee.

"Great Drink List"

November 2009 — "Clive's is the hotel bar at Chateau Victoria Hotel. It is a well decorated warm atmosphere and a great place to go for a drink. It was recommended to us a few times so we went and were really impressed by the drink list. All the drinks are done the way they are supposed to be, meaning very well thought out and researched. You will not find any drinks being poured from the carbonated "bar guns", where even a coke will come to you in a small boutique bottle. The service however on the night we were there was TERRIBLE. I am happy to give a waitress or waiter some slack when it is busy or understaffed (and it was both), but our server was really not doing a good job at all. My spouse asked for something and her simple reply was "check the menu". We asked for our food 3 times throughout an hour and a half, then finally found out that the kitchen was closed just after we ordered! Upon asking for two separate bills the waitress basically told me that she will do it, but was obviously pissed off that I would even dream of asking. I have to admit, I am a chronic over-tipper, and almost left nothing for this service!
We will try Clive's again because of the drink list, and I would like to think the service will not be even close to as bad as it was this evening."

October 2009 — "We visited Clyve's Bar and grill, located in the lobby of the Chateua Victoria, after a busy event that had taken place right across the street. The bar was packed, almost everyone from the previous event decided to make their way over to Clyve's. Clyves was VERY VERY understaffed, and not prepared for the number of guests. The server that we had, we very rude to us, and clearly having a very hard time that night. We ordered Appy's and drinks. I asked for a suggestion about a drink, and i was simply told ' the menu is in front of you' i was not impressed. i do understand that there were more people than expected last night, however, the rush was not taken care of properly. After we ordered, and had a few drinks, we kept checking to see if our appetizers were coming, the waitress continued to say YES.. they are coming. Anyhow, over 1 hour after ordering, she came back and informed us that the kitchen had been closed for 2 hours, and that our appetizers were not coming, we were so hungry. She brought us one finger bowl of cold popcorn, between 6 adults. Needless to say, we were still hungry.
The only reason that i would go to Clyve's again, would be becasue they had the greatest drink menu that i have read in a long time, it is expensive, but they use the best liquor and mix deliocious drinks. the bartender is making awesome drinks. i would like to go back, on a quiet evening, when the kitchen is open, and give Clyve's a second chance. Our first experience was not good, but i have high hopes for the next."

DescriptionWithin the Chateau Victoria is an elegant lounge with a rich interior, like leather chairs, and luxurious adornments, such as Swarovski crystal lighting. Cozy up to fireplace or shimmy up to the bar for a cocktail. The dinner menu features a sort of casual gourmet cuisine with shared dishes such as a cheese and charcuterie board, Dungeness crab and brie potato skins, and mini Kobe sliders. A nice selection of entrees has stand out dishes like maple glazed meatloaf and chive and lobster macaroni and cheese au gratin.
