August 2011 — "For our wedding anniversary, we decided to go somewhere we have never been before. La Chaumiere on 17th Ave SW was a restaurant that had a reputation of being a high class establishment and fit the bill perfectly. Reservations were required which we managed to secure earlier in the week. When we arrived, we were greeted and seated promptly. The server had some kind of european accent, which was probably something that they demand at this restaurant just to give customers the impression of something foreign. We were presented with the specials of the day, both of which my wife and I decided to go for. I typically don't order fish when I go to restaurants, however the server recommended the trout which they had. My wife decided on the pheasant which she had never had before. I started with a lobster bisque, while my wife ordered the "potage du jour". Both of our starter soups were very good. Our meals came shortly after covered in a stainless steel cover. Two servers came out and opened them at the same time as part of the presentation. They appeared to do this for everyone's meals. I found my fish to be okay. My wife really enjoyed her phesant. For desert, my wife ordered a 7 minute chocolate cake, which was a like a molten lava cake. Not knowing what to order, I had a carpaccio d'ananas (basically pinapple shaved very thinly) with a scope of ice cream. Again, my wife really enjoyed her dessert, while I found my to be satisfactory. Overall, I found the restaurant to be quaint, but not overally impressive. The prices were actually more reasonable that I had thought they would be (approx. $30 per entree). The service was also just okay. All together, I would not likely go back to the this restaurant again. Simply because for the price, I know I can get better service and better tasting food elsewhere."
