September 2010 — "My friends wanted to go to 40 Westt so I tagged along. 40 Westt is a very well-known steakhouse on the island of Montreal and so my expectations were quite high. It is located in the West Island on a strip with lots of stores and other restaurants. Parking was definitely not a problem. The restaurant itself is quite beautiful inside with classy earth tone colors, a large bar and a live band! However this is where all of the niceties end. The live band was way too loud. I could not hold a conversation with my friend sitting beside me without literally raising my voice to uncomfortable levels. This is not a good place to take your wife for a nice night out. The wine list was quite extensive with selections from all over the world however they were just too expensive. I can tolerate paying more for wine in a restaurant than the local SAQ depot but not many times more for the same wine. The dinner menu was filled with everything a meat-lover dreams of though. I ordered the 14oz. ribeye (medium-rare) with garlic mashed potatoes. For the price I expected a perfectly cooked ribeye with mashed potatoes that melted on my fork. The mashed potatoes were actually very good with a nice buttery taste and not much salt. However the ribeye was not even close to medium-rare. I do not mind a rare steak every once in a while but my ribeye was less than rare. It was juicy but extremely fatty (too much fat for my taste but still tolerable) however for the price I was not happy at all. By the time I was done I was still a little hungry. In the end, I really felt 40 Westt was over-hyped. Too expensive given the quality, and way too loud to enjoy a meal. At least the restrooms were nice. "
