May 2011 — "The name itself can seem a little confusing but its based on a history that involves France.
This isn't your average Vietnamese Restaurant. For one the size of the place is bigger than your usual, and is decorated brilliantly through out. When you walk in it has a nice light setting; the hostesses are very friendly and seat you right away.
I really enjoy the pho soup and would claim it is one of the best in city. They have a large variety of Seafood and fill you right up with tons in your soup. I have gone to many places where they dont have fresh seafood for their soups but this place went out of their way to give me extra squid and shrimp!
I find that the service is very friendly and that they always strive to provide the best. They have great green tea, and peanut sauce. Prices are reasonable and very decent.
I have tried La Cochinchine numerous of times and have been satisfied with the Service, food, and restaurant itself. :)

October 2010 — "Most Vietnamese places aren't generally known for their atmosphere or beautiful dining experience. Usually you just go for the food. But Cochinchine is different! The inside decor of the restaurant is just gorgeous! It's quite classy and much more elegant than any other Vietnamese place I've been to! Pair that with great food and good service and you have a definite winner. As our appetizer, we ordered the 3 salad rolls, which came cut in half and served with a delicious dipping sauce. The salad rolls had fresh basil in them, which I like, but my sister didn't. Because they were cut in half, it was easy to pull the basil leaves out. For my main, I had the vermicelli noodle bowl with charbroiled pork and spring rolls. When it came, I thought the portion to be quite small as they serve it in a smaller bowl than most places. However, I was hardly able to finish! The meat portion was very generous and the noodles were cooked perfectly! It was a really good meal. The service was a bit slow, but very friendly and accommodating. In all fairness, the place was almost full for dinner. I would definitely recommend La Cochinchine to anyone wanting Vietnamese in a fine dining atmosphere! "

September 2010 — "La Cochinchine breaks free from your average conventional Vietnamese
restaurant. It is lovely inside. Beautifully decorated, clean, wonderful!
That was one of the first things I noticed. Secondly after eating here a few times I noticed that they strive for an overall customer satisfaction and experience and it is clear it is of high importance to the owners and employees. It clearly shows throughout.
Quick, friendly service and delicious food.
Ordering take-out can sometimes be difficult as they seem to run behind at times. If you are tending to call in for special orders, or extras sometimes they seem to forget and mess up.
I would recommend to eat in, as the service is much better!
I have eaten at La Cochinchine 6 times, and probably wouldn't go anywhere else in the city.
It has everything a typical Viet Menu would have with reasonable pricing. Everything is always fresh and ready to go and delicious. I have eaten at many many vietnamese restaurants in Calgary and I would say this is the best I have ever had.
One thing that I did not like was that they put mint leaves in all their salad rolls and you cannot order without. I don't like mint, and I don't like mint in my salad rolls so that's something I just don't order, which is disappointing as I love salad rolls!!
You think they would make without for picky people but apparently not. If you are craving a vietnamese dish I would say go! Its better than your average place! And makes for a lovely night out!
Its more about the food then drink so its probably not the best place to find a nice reasonably priced glass of wine. "

October 2009 — "That pretty much sums up this new Vietnamese restaurant found in an unassuming strip-mall on 17th avenue and 32nd street.
The first thing I noticed when walking in was how outstanding the decor is. Up until that point, I don't think I had ever thought of bringing a date to a Vietnamese restaurant, but La Cochinchine has change all of that.
For dinner I ordered a bowl of "Bun Bo Hue" soup, and a side of shrimp dumplings. The soup was well prepared and a nice departure from the standard pho. It contained a nice spicy base and several slices of Vietnamese-style ham. It would have been even better if the noodles weren't pre-cut, which made eating them with chopsticks, a chore.
On the other hand, the shrimp dumplings were OUTSTANDING. I was expecting a standard minced pork & shrimp dumpling. Instead, I got a whole shrimp with a nice light gyoza-style skin wrapped around it.
The shrimp dumplings were one of those dishes, that was so good, I insisted my friends each try one. They did, and we promptly ordered two more plates of them.
If there is one thing I'd like to see changed, it's the service. While the service was respectable, a restaurant like this deserves a wait-staff with a lot more prior experience."

La Cochinchine is a Vietnamese restaurant found on 17th Avenue in the southwest of the city. An upscale casual and contemporary decor serves as the backdrop to a menu that features a variety of pho, vermicelli and dumpling dishes.
