February 2011 — "Happy Valley Restaurant is located on Centre Street in the heart of Calgary's Chinatown. It is famous for its BBQ pork, duck, and beef as displayed on its shop windows. The restaurant decor is nothing special as most restaurants in Chinatown are but their food and service is top notch. My favourite dish here is the BBQ pork special which is available everyday. It is a simple mix of white rice, bok choy vegetables, and slices of their delicious BBQ pork. You can ask for any of the BBQ meats they have available. It is an extra charge of a dollar or two if you can't make up your mind and decide to pick 2 kinds of meats. Their menu is quite extensive and includes many other Hong Kong cuisine favourites but the BBQ pork is what draws me back everytime. A quick note is they will be closed on each Monday beginning in 2011."

December 2009 — "In general, the food at Happy Valley I find is sub-par. In particular, the BBQ items have always and are consistently bad but because this restaurant is somewhat convenient and my family has been going here for years, we tend to always get our BBQ items here. The roast pork skin is never cripsy. Everything tends to be soggy. The BBQ pork is dry and the roast pork is greasy and dry. It's a weird combination. On the other hand, their other noodle dishes are OK and highly edible. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant if it wasn't for the price. You can get a lot of roast pork or custom order roast pig for a good price. They give you a lot more than other BBQ houses can offer for the price. The quality tends to be mixed but on the bright side, the food will be good enough to serve. Not a bad place to get your catering items."

September 2009 — "It seems like this is the new place that my family has developed a liking to and I guess it was good, but it lacked the wow factor for me. It looks like a typical Chinese restaurant, located right before the bridge to Chinatown. During the weekdays, it might be a bit of a challenge to find parking, but there are always some 2 hour spots around the vicinity of the restaurant. We ordered the big 10 course Chinese meals and we definitely left with leftovers for the next week. My aunt commented on the fact that the flavors were done well. Not too salty or spicy, which I agree with, but there were some dishes that fell short. Like the soup, which was a bit too thick and the dessert was with the glutinous rice, making taste and smell a little like it was rinsed with dish soup. The starter dish with Jellyfish was good and the crab dish was well done, just a bit messy, which is expected for, but very flavorful. It was good for dinner, but not great. I am sure we will go again, but it fails to land a spot on my top 10. "

Found in Chinatown, this restaurant specializes in Hong Kong style dishes. A good selection is offered on a menu that includes curries, seafood, beef, pork, chicken dishes, rice bowls and noodles. The decor is bright and casual.
