February 2012 — "I have always liked Ric's Grill as a good, reliable place to go for a special occasion. This year for Valentine's Day, I requested my boyfriend take me there for dinner. We had a lovely time. The restaurant is classy and elegant and the food never disappoints. Our server was very sweet and we loved our meal. We had 2 appetizers, one prawn and one lobster. Both were delicious. We added a caesar salad to share which was a bit extra on top of the per person Valentine menu. It was delicious! Our main course we paid an extra $10 per person to have the all out seafood extravaganza! We had steak, lobster tails, prawns, scallops, vegetables and double stuffed potatoes. WOW! Paired with a delicious malbec blend, the entire experience was extremely special. I felt very spoiled. I wasn't that impressed with the dessert as I found the chocolate cake to be a bit dry, but all in all, our meal was almost perfect. Thanks Ric's for reminding me why I love you so much!"

"Top Notch Seafood! "

February 2012 — "I don't often get the chance for a good seafood feast, but the opportunity arose on Valentine's Day when I took my girlfriend to Ric's Grill, upon her request. Their regular menu was unavailable and a special Valentine's menu had been put together for the occasion. For $59 per person, we each had the 3 course dinner. The only complaint I have is that we were seated in the "overflow" section and not in a quiet, romantic booth as my girlfriend had hoped. Also, a few choices on the menu were unavailable as the kitchen had run out, forcing us to order something we wouldn't have originally chosen. The food was amazing though and our server went above and beyond to make our meal memorable. My girlfriend couldn't choose between 2 wines so the server brought her a small glass of each to try, at no extra cost. Our meal of steak, lobster, prawns, scallops and double stuffed potatoes was to die for. I will definitely spoil my girlfriend and take her back to Ric's to try their regular menu. "

January 2012 — "I had heard many wonderful things about Rics, so finally when we decided to go out for a nice dinner we figured Rics would be worth trying. The website said reservations were needed so we made our restervation for 6:30pm on a Saturday. When we arrived the place was almost empty, which made me wonder why we even needed to make the reservation, but it didn't matter, we got seated promptly. Our server was really nice, but somewhat awkward to make conversation with. There was a special on sparkling wine mixed drinks so we opted to try one -- don't think I would order another, special or no special, as it wasn't overly delicious. I got a French onion soup as a starter and felt like it was very bland and lacked substance, the cheese was the only part I enjoyed. For my main course I ordered steak and lobster -- why not go all out when you're fine dining right? When it arrived, my steak was great, but the lobster tasted unfresh and quite unpleasant -- I could have skipped it all together. The "chefs" potatoes were not my favourite either, I would have prefered getting the mashed. I wasn't expecting beet as my vegetable but I actually really enjoyed it. All in all, I probably wouldn't jump at an opportunity to go back to Rics but I also wouldn't be opposed. "

"Nice Decor, Good Food"

May 2011 — "I had never been to the downtown location of Ric's Grill or even knew it existed. However, my wife had bought a Groupon coupon online where you pay $20 and get $40 worth of food. We had been to the other Ric's so she thought we should give this a try. We went on a Friday night and the place was busy. It is really nice, dark and intimate inside and we were seated in this private room at the back which had about eight to ten tables. It was a nice intimate setting which was nice since we were celebrating our anniversary. Our server took our drink order right away, but it took awhile for them to arrive. I guess that's understandable since it was so busy. We decided to start with the Mediterranean dip which is like a combination of bruschetta, spinach and artichoke dips and it was served with pitas. It was really delicious. I'm allergic to shellfish and nuts, and every other appetizer had shellfish in it, but even though it was the only non-seafood one, I was not disappointed. For my main I got filet mignon. It was so good, cooked to my liking and mouth watering. My wife had the black and blue ahi tuna and thought it was really delicious too. To finish the meal we shared the creme brulee, which was also delicious. The whole experience foodwise was extraordinary, but the service was a little slow at the beginning. When our entrees were about to come we wanted another drink, but it took about 10 minutes for the server to come to our table and see our empty glasses. Overall though, we had a three course meal and a few drinks and with the coupon it was $80! It would have been $120, but I think that is still very reasonable for the quality of food and the atmosphere of the restaurant. We will likely be back. "

"Pricey but good"

August 2010 — "Ric's is in a very trendy part of town and the décor is appropriately urban modern. A dark interior throughout including the booths where we were seated. The waitress was friendly and explained all the choices. Our order took a long time to come despite the fact that it was not very full of diners. The house dressing on my spinach side salad was very tasty with just a little bit of sweetness. The Green Thai curry with scallops and prawns was superb with a good portion of seafood. The other choices - Salmon creole, Lamb chops and Chicken salad with goat cheese were all well presented and tasty. A little on the pricey side but it was good value. "

"Not Too Bad"

May 2010 — "I visited Ric's Grill for a birthday dinner party about a week ago. I found ambience of the restaurant quite inviting and lively which is a good thing for large groups such as birthday parties. My girlfriend and I decided to skip on appetizers and went straight for the best cuts of steak you could order. We decided on both the 12 oz ribeye and 10 oz filet mignon. We were excited to see how the flavours were with their own aging process and preparation. The side that came with the steaks was a stuffed potato. I really did enjoy my filet as it was extremely tender and flavorful. Surprisingly enough the ribeye had less flavor than the filet which is unusual as the ribeye tends to have more fat to enhance the flavor. The potato wasn't anything special but decent with the meal. Service was nothing special as our waitress really did not pay attention to us that night unless we waved her over. Drinks apparently were quite lackluster and some were even bitter. Overall, the filet I ordered was spectacular. Service could of been better but really do not have much to say about coming back anytime soon. Personally, I would just come back maybe once a year if it was planned but nothing to go out of my way for. "

"A good experience"

May 2010 — "I've been meaning to try Ric's Grill for some time now and for a friend's birthday, got the opportunity to pay a visit. Being an avid fan of steaks, my friend ordered the ribeye and I had ordered the the filet mignon, both meals came with a stuffed potato, seasonal veggies and we added an order of sauteed mushrooms on the side. I wish there were more vegetables as i only got 2 pieces of asparagus and 1 slice of carrot but the mushrooms were sufficient enough to compensate. The potato was stuffed and baked, nothing special. I was pleased however with my steak, it was tender and even more flavorful than my friend's ribeye which i also had a bite of and had thoroughly enjoyed. The service was warm and courteous, we were checked on enough that it wasn't overbearing and the value for the meal was quite affordable for the quality of the meal. I didn't have room for dessert otherwise I'd be all over the creme brulee but will definitely be making a return trip. "

"Romantic with good food and prices"

September 2009 — "Ric's Gill, on 8th Street SW, is currently having a promo with 660 news. If you've signed up with 660 news, you'll receive a $25 gift certificate for this restaurant. The menu has anything from Steaks to Seafood and Pasta all with your choice of soup or salad, potato, rice or vegetables. There is currently prime rib only on Sundays and it seems they will stop serving prime rib any time now. Almost all the steaks have different sizes from 6 oz to 12 oz for you to choose from which is nice for people with different size stomachs. They also serve all the bread and better you want. The atmosphere is fairly nice and romantic, great for a special occasion. Overall the food and service was great and I definitely will go back for more and recommend Ric's Grill to anyone looking for a nice place with good food at a reasonable price. The only thing is there doesn't seem to be any free parking unless you go in the evenings and park on the street. Otherwise you'll have to pay for the meter."
