June 2011 — "My boyfriend and I decided to try this place after our friends raved about this place and how they had to ban themselves from going as they had been everyday for a week straight. Seeing as this couple are very critical of food, we figured we had to see what the hype was all about. Unfortunately, it was just that. Hype. This place is a small, unassuming joint that seats very few people. We looked at the menu, and decided we had to try the fish and chips. The price was just over $10 which appeared reasonable. I will say that the food was fresh cooked so bonus points for that. We took this home to eat and they gave us a big serving of tartar sauce which was appreciated. The fish itself, was just okay. It was quite oily and a bit soggy. Perhaps the soggy part was from having to haul this home, but the oily part, that was just gross. I love the fries that came with it, but I love all types of fries but that review is probably biased. I think we will try this place again, and hope that the first time was just a bad batch. I do love me some fish and chips, and this would be so convenient if it really tasted as good as they say it does."

"No Frozen Fish Sticks Here"

September 2009 — "The Halibut House is a cute little fish and chip joint off Edmonton Trail in Calgary. I'm not going to lie, my expectation of this place was quite high as I pictured myself enjoying fresh halibut off the coast of Nova Scotia, and while my experience didn't quite compare to fish and chips by the sea, it did come quite close. The restaurant is quite small and decorated appropriately with fish nets, lobsters, crab and other ocean creatures. There are a few tables inside, as well as picnic table seating outside. I ordered a combo meal which included battered scallops, shrimp, and one piece of fish as well as home made fries. I was utterly shocked at the size of the shrimps and the freshness of all of the seafood on my plate. It truly did taste like it came straight from the ocean. No frozen fish sticks here. The fries were a little soggy but still good and I was willing to forgive because the rest of my meal was so fantastic. I would have expected to pay a lot for the quality of food I received but it all came in around 10 dollars. The next time you are looking for some good old fashioned fish and chips, check out the Halibut House. "

BulletDescription

The Halibut House is a nautical themed fish and chip shop that is located just off Edmonton Trail in the north east. Patrons can order off the menu board and have their choice of fish (cod, halibut, clam strips, etc) and chips cooked fresh. Mainly a take out restaurant, there are a couple of tables inside and a picnic table outside.
