October 2009 — "I went for the all you can eat sushi at Sumo Lounge for a friend's birthday. The sushi is as always very fresh and good. The fish to rice ratio is just right and the sashimi is very good as well. All the cooked items were tasty and came in good portions. I have been going to Sumo Lounge for a few years now and the quality is always good. They don't try to cheap out on the fish or give you really big portions of cooked items so that you can't finish it. The restaurant is quite big and perfect for any gatherings or parties. It's nicely decorated and the service is generally OK. This is probably the best all you can eat sushi restaurant in Calgary. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality Japanese restaurant or a great all you can eat experience."

September 2009 — "A Co-worker and I were craving sushi for lunch one day, so we decided on Sumo on Tenth as it is very close to our office.
Décor is nice, with a traditional Japanese ambience.
We started out with the assorted Tempura. It included shrimp, yams, broccoli, and zucchini. It was crisp and hot.
The menu selection was quite large, including a large selection of sushi, as well as other dishes for the non-sushi lovers. We selected several rolls to split between the two of us. We got the spicy tuna and dynamite rolls, as well as the Tempura shrimp sashimi, and the special scallop roles. The dynamite rolls were defiantly the best with mayonnaise and tempura shrimp inside them. The rolls were put together a bit sloppily, with partial sides missing on some. The spicy tuna could have been spicier, and was a bit bland. However, the location offered decent sushi at a more then reasonable price for downtown. Defiantly better then the fast food sushi kiosks. The bill for the two of us was about $30.

August 2009 — "Being in the mood of Japanese food we decided to visit Sumo Japanese Restaurant, its located just behind Gulf Canada Square on 10th Ave SW. It’s a great spot for those that work in the beltline to go for lunch. The lobby is actually shared with another restaurant on the 2nd level with Sumo operating on the 1st level. Service was a bit slow, but understandable as we were there during the lunch rush. They did come back often to refill our water so it was not too bad. I ordered the teriyaki beef on rice and it arrived quickly. The food was a bit cold from possibly sitting outside for too long before being brought to us, but it still tasted ok. You cant really mess up a simple dish like Teriyaki beef but it would have tasted better at the proper temperature. My co-workers all ordered sushi and said it was not the best they’ve tasted but far from the worst either. For a quick visit during lunch its worth the visit, but there is better to be found elsewhere."
