April 2011 — "Holy crow it has been ions since I've gone to Dickens! It's still dungeony, complete with pool tables, a place to play darts, and a dance floor to enjoy live bands. I went there for lunch because it isn't far from the office and totally forgot how cave-like it is! A steep set of stairs leads you into the bar so not very accessible if you have mobility issues. The lunch menu is reasonably priced with typical pub food. I ended up choosing the mac and cheese dish for $10 - not sure what possessed me given there were lots of veggie type dishes and I wish I hadn't gone that route. The noodles were a little too al a dente for me, the sauce was great, but the crusty topping was incredibly salty. Maybe good if I had been drinking beer but alas this was not possible over the lunch hour for me. The menu has good things on it and my eating partners thoroughly enjoyed their meals (chicken burger and fish and chips) so probably better to try those out if you go to Dicken's. By the way, The service was excellent! Just be careful- they don't take debit!"

December 2010 — "Dickens is a great, casual pub located downtown. They support the local music scene in Calgary and offer some really good food and drinks emphasized by great service and a friendly atmosphere. They have a few pool tables and a really large bar, which comes in handy when it gets busy on the weekends. I was at Dickens on a Friday and decided to order some Guinness fish and chips as it was on special that night for $7.95. I also ordered a basket of onion rings to share with the group. All of the food was delicious and extremely fair in price. The server was very organized and was a lot of fun as well. They also had highballs on special all night for $4.25. The music was great and the kitchen was open until midnight serving food. I recommend Dickens for anyone wanting a fun, laid back place to hang out, especially if you are on a budget! "

December 2010 — "Dicken's has the reputation of being one of Calgary's typical dingy basement pubs, but a trip there to see some live music on a Friday night proved it to be otherwise! The washrooms were quite clean, and the pub itself was actually much more well lit and welcoming than I had expected. Hosting 4 pool tables, tons of room, and a variety of beer on tap, Dicken's suprised me even more with the quality of service and the delicious food! At $10, the New York Steak Salad was real winner! When my food arrived, I was happy to find a generously sized, perfectly cooked piece of steak sliced beautifully and layed on a huge bed of lettuce. It was all topped with fresh onions, peppers and tomato and tossed in a light dressing. It was honestly one of the best restaurant salads I have had in a long time. It was served with a piece of warm naan bread, the perfect accompaniment. The service was fast and friendly and I really enjoyed my conversation with our server! The beer on tap was cold and crisp, and all round, my experience at Dicken's was great. I definitely recommend the steak salad! "

September 2009 — "My wife works in the same building that Dickens is in, so I met her for lunch one day. It is pretty dark and dingy down there, but the place was packed on the Friday lunch hour that we went there. They have a menu filled with things like quesadillas, burgers, sandwiches and things like that. I had the beef quesadilla and thought it was pretty tasty! Lots of cheese! The beef curry dish my wife got was okay too, since I ate some of it later on that day because she couldn't finish it. The one bad thing about this pub is that it took a long time to get our food. I guess we had arrived a little after everyone else, but the server apologized. The pub looks like it might be a happening spot at night since they have live bands and such. The service was also attentive and I left feeling satisfied with the entire experience. Oh yeah, and the prices are pretty cheap!"
