March 2011 — "This South Indian buffet is one of the freshest I've experienced in awhile. The choices were very good and included soup and dessert for $13.99. There were various vegetarian dishes, such as rice crepe stuffed with spicy potatoes (Dosa), a steam rice cake (Idly), butter chicken, tandoori chicken, a beef dish, a chick pea masala, a paneer dish, Naan, a spicy mushroom/cauliflower dish...the list goes on and on. There were typical Indian desserts as well as fresh fruit. The spices were amazing - not too hot but definitely let you know you were eating good Indian food. I think the difference with South Indian food is the spice is very flavourful and there is less cream - a healthy alternative for sure. The decor is cozy and the washrooms clean. Not sure why they felt moth balls were needed in the wash basin - I've seen this a lot when I travel but Calgary really isn't a place where that is necessary and the smell is a bit off-putting. Otherwise, fantastic!"
October 2010 — "A colleague and I recently went to try the $12.95 lunch buffet at Raj Palace on 6th Avenue. We had reservations for 11:45 and when I arrived it was quite empty so I was a little concerned. But it smelled good and the place quickly started filling up.
My friend arrived and we ordered some beers to go with our lunch and then headed to check out the buffet. There was a large selection of items and everything looked tasty and hot. I loaded up my plate with a little bit of everything, focusing, as usual, on the butter chicken and lamb curry.
We sat down to eat and although the restaurant was crowded, it wasn't overly noisy and we found it easy to have a conversation at a reasonable volume. The food was good, not the most outstanding Indian cuisine I've tasted, but for a downtown lunch buffet, it was pretty much what I expected.
Overall I was happy with the meal. The price was right and I always like a buffet because of the variety. It is very near to my work so I will likely return."
July 2010 — "Really enjoyed our visit to this restaurant, very busy place but dinner buffet was kept well filled and staff were excellent. The naan bread was wonderful, would definitely go back again."
December 2009 — "I really enjoyed the buffet. They had some tasty and unique items. Some of the buffet items were not on the menu. It wasn't all blow your socks off delicious, but it was really good and a couple of the dishes were outstanding."
