December 2009 — "My friends and I came here for dim sum as a sort of celebration for being off on holidays and being able to have a mid morning meal not on the weekends. They were quick in getting us a table and getting tea served. Almost immediately after sitting down, we were approached by many of the ladies pushing carts around with different dishes of food so we were able to pick our dishes right away. It was just alright. I have a few dishes that are my favorite like the shrimp rice crepe and the chicken feet. The rice crepe was okay and the chicken feet were good. Overall, the food was mediocre. Nothing particularly memorable. Between the 4 of us, the bill came to $70 which I found to be quite pricey for the food we got. It was convenient but I’m not sure I’ll be back, it might be worthwhile to drive a little further for better tasting food."

October 2009 — "Central Grand Restaurant has been open for a long time now while other similar restaurants have been closing down.
One advantage of this place is that there's free parking so you don't have to fight and pay for parking in China Town.
Their food is very good as well. They are one of the few dim sum places that still uses the traditional way of selling dim sum with people pushing dim sum carts. It's frustrating sometimes to be waiting for the carts with what you want to come around. Also if you don't have a table close enough to the kitchen there might not be much left by the time the carts get to you. Other restaurants you get a check list to order from and they bring it right out to you like anything else you have in restaurants. You rarely have to ask twice for a glass of water or hot sauce. They are even so fast that when you're done eating and you get up to leave, by the time you put on your jacket they would be rushing over to clean up your table and setting it up for the next group of guests.
Just remember to have your last sip of tea before you get up or it may not be there anymore after you put on your jacket. Overall the food is worth the weird service."

August 2009 — "I had some friends come from out of town earlier this month, and they wanted to try some good dim sum, so we made our way to Central Grand on 16th avenue and Centre Street NW. We got there around 10am and were treated to an assortment of piping hot and steamy items.
Particularly good here was the sticky rice, which when ordered comes in two individually wrapped portions. The sticky rice was wrapped around an assortment of Chinese meats and was just the right consistency to make for a happy experience. Also quite well done were the deep-fried taro dumplings. While other restaurants tend to use way too much taro, which can overwhelm the ground pork found inside, Central Grand seems to have found just the right ratio to please its guests.
As is usually the case with dim sum, the service was less about personable attention and more about speed.
If there's one concern that came out of our meal, it's the price. While the prices at Central Grand is comparable to other restaurants in Calgary; compared to other cities in Canada, the prices are making going out for dim sum something harder to do on a whim."

Central Grand is located on the second floor of an Asian mall of the same name on the corner of 16th Avenue NE and Centre Street North. They are open for dim sum and also offer a lunch and dinner menu.
