March 2010 — "I made a trip to try Pho So a couple of weeks ago, and didn't feel like it was any different than what I had before. I had tried this place a while ago, but had forgotten why it doesn't really reach my top 5 list. It's got parking that is linked to the New Asia mall area, so it's pretty easy to get to, but getting out of the place is always a bit of a task. At least it is, heading towards NW on Centre Street that is. I felt like the soup, so when I ordered it, I knew generally, what to expect and it was that, but it lacked the flavours that I really craved - the cilantro and onions (which are what really make the dish). The soup base wasn't nothing to boast about for me either. The good stuff it clearer and sweet almost. Mind you the noodles, they tasted alright, but for some reason, it really tasted quite bland to me. It wasn't too bad and I'm sure when I forget what this place is like, I might stop by, but I don't think it will be a place I crave to go to. Nothing new, nothing great. "

August 2009 — "Pho So, found on Centre Street, just off of 16th Avenue, is a small family-owned Vietnamese restaurant that offers nothing new, but what it does prepare is done in a loving manner.
The last time I was there I ordered the beef sate noodle soup. The broth was piping hot, both in terms of heat and spiciness, which frankly makes or break a good bowl of sate. The broth is definitely above average compared to other Vietnamese restaurants.
Another plus comes in the beverage department. Where many restaurants are now brewing their Vietnamese coffee in bulk and preparing the "Cafe Sua Da" (iced coffee with evaporated milk) behind the counter; Pho So percolates the coffee in individual servings at your table.
The service here is quite good. Obviously they've been at it for a long time, so it might be bare-bones in terms of small-talk and whatnot, but our orders here are rarely messed up, and really that's what counts.
Price-wise, Pho So is on par with the other Vietnamese restaurants in the city."

Located just off the Trans Canada Trail and Centre Street, this casual pho joint serves a variety of hot noodle soups. It is easy to miss this hole-in-the-wall establishment, but its years in operation are testament to their solid menu.
