"Empty Dessert House"

December 2011 — "A group of friends and I decided to have Asian dessert after dinner in Kensington. I remember coming here 5 years ago and the place was consistently full and busy. Now, its always empty and only the few loyal customers seem to go. We all ordered either drinks or small baked custard desserts. They were decent but I was disappointed that they did not make Hong Kong style milk tea and could only offer me the Taiwanese version made from powder like the cheaper bubbletea drinks. "

"Customer Service lacking"

December 2011 — "Like always, the management team of this place do not smile at all. They all appear frustrated or annoyed at all customers. They don't really acknowledge when I place an order. This time I tried a kiwi fruit juice and a steamed egg with milk sesame dessert. The sesame dessert took forever to make, as they had informed at the time of order, but it was actually ten minutes later than they quoted. If you ask me, the value isn't there. You get so little serving for a large price. "

"Bad service as always"

October 2011 — "The owners here don't really care for customer service. They know customers will come back no matter what so it is definitely lacking any appreciation for customers. We didn't receive a eye to eye contact or any smiles from any of the staff members here. They treat their own staff horribly.. it's bad to see that they treat their staff the way you wouldn't expect to see in a restaurant. We had a large kiwi drink and a coconut grass jelly dish. It was dropped off on our table without a word. The service to pay our bill is also slow. I have to wait till the female owner to come up to the cash register and she will give you a check. No smiles again. "

"Great place for asian desserts"
Image

Save Review

February 2011 — "Dessert House is a well known place in Calgary for its fresh fruit Hong Kong and Taiwanese style desserts and bubble teas. It is located in the centre of Chinatown and open until late on most nights (11pm weekdays and midnight on weekends.) It is a popular hangout for a lot of younger teens and you can occasionally spot older Asian generations enjoying a post supper dessert as well. This restaurant serves almost exclusively dessert. Their menu is filled with small delicacies such as bubble tea made from real fresh fruit (which makes it quite a noisy background at times since you can hear the blender in the kitchen almost constantly) and too many snacks to list. If you are hungry one of the few things on the menu that may satisfy your appetite is their selection of noodles. It's a very unique menu as you can select the type of noodles (instant, vermicelli, rice) along with a large number of toppings. Prices are reasonable and it's a great treat after dinner in Chinatown."

"Top choice for dessert and snacks"

July 2009 — "As far as I can remember, the Dessert house is one of (if not the) first bubble tea/snack house to open up in Calgary. It has since migrated across the street from its original location in China town to a much bigger space (former Golden Happiness Bakery). This is my top choice for dessert and snacks when I want a nice place to sit down. The cafe is bright and usually almost filled with people during the late weekend evenings. Often there is a crowd of people standing at the door but don't let that intimidate you; they are just waiting for their takeout order. I have yet to wait for a spot here. The service is generally on the slow end but once you get your order in, the wait is not too long. The crowd here is diverse and the general atmosphere is just nice and laid back. I love the different desserts that they offer. They basically have something for everyone, from bubble tea to different fruit bowls, pudding and ice cream. Their snacks are quite good as well. I recommend the satay cuttlefish. Their menu is extensive but you'll come to find that there are some items that they don't actually have/sell. They need to update their menu."
