March 2012 — "My friend and I decided to come here as we had heard that the beef tataki is the best here. Beef tataki is chilled beef in a sauce (I’m sure there’s more to this but that’s as great as my explanation will be as a complete non foodie) Along with that, we ordered some sushi as well. The beef tataki was just as described, very good and tasty. The sushi that we had was also good quality too. My friend is quite hesitant and new to the sushi scene so we had to order some of the tamer stuff, but that’s fine because it all tastes good. The service was very good, a little too good in that they were constantly, constantly checking on us, to the point that it got a bit annoying and intrusive. I am sure they meant well but it almost felt like they wanted us to hurry and leave, though I’m sure that’s not the intent. Nonetheless, it’s prime location with great beef tataki and fresh sushi. No real complaints so a keeper in our books I think."

November 2009 — "This has easily become one of my favorite places to have sushi in Calgary. Shibuya puts a modern twist on some of the traditional Japanese foods and rolls and not at all sacrificing the quality. I really enjoy eating here every time and I constantly find myself going back for more. It's perfect for those that don't want to go downtown or down to 17th Ave for something special and it has the added benefits of parking. The decor is very eye pleasing as well, with some bold red and dark colors that pop! This time around a friend and I tried their bento boxes, which had a good assortment of everything, salad, sushi, a couple of rolls, rice and some beef. My friend ordered the sashimi and she seemed to be enjoying it. On the side, we also ordered some salmon tataki. Very good. There's some crunch to it with the fried garlic and the red onions hit the spot. Another dish that I have ordered in the past that I recommend if you want something light is the sashimi salad. They give you a good portion of sashimi and the vinegarette is a ginger base. Really good. And they have really good service too. If anything, the waiters are a little too eager to take away my dishes after I have finished. But you are always greeted with a warm smile. "

August 2009 — "This is one of the newer additions to Calgary's late night eateries. This isn't your regular Japaneses restaurant but an izakaya place! Izakaya basically means Japanese appetizers. Obviously this izakaya restaurant can not compare to the many izakaya places found in Vancouver, however, it's consider decent for Calgary standards. The restaurant has bar seating over looking the open kitchen while the rest of the restaurant is your ordinary open dinning room with some-what dim lighting perfect for late night chat with friends.
At Shibuya, there's a wide variety of choices from Japanese appetizers to creative sushi rolls to sashimi to udon noodles to teriyaki chicken. For late night treats, there's many great selection of Japanese appetizers to try such as the Ebi Chilli Mayo, Beef tataki and even some fresh raw oysters. During my recent dining experience here, I recommend trying the Sashimi Salad and the many nontraditional sushi rolls such as the Kiwi Paradise. "

Shibuya Izakaya is a Japanese restaurant open late nights. Sushi is popular here, but other options include ramen, udon, teriyaki and tataki. They also have an impressive sake list.
