February 2010 — "This is the second time I've eaten at the Tudor House and the food has been consistently good. I don't remember there being so many TVs but the place was littered with them, perhaps for the Olympics. And the place was pretty full with people there to grab a brew and watch Canada vs Switzerland in the men's hockey. The lights were on bright, the volume turned up loud and people shouting to talk--all reminiscent of a Maritime beer hall. Last time we had to order at the bar but yesterday they had waitress service so I don't know if this is a new thing or special because of the Olympics. Our server was pleasant and efficient. I had a cheeseburger as did my husband. It was very good! It was just standard but the bun was soft and fluffy, the patty was handmade, the cheese was real cheddar, and the tomato and lettuce was fresh. I ordered yam fries as my side for an extra $1.50 and it was worth it for the chipotle dipping sauce. You could also get special sides like onion rings or poutine. The menu is of the standard pub variety but there are some interesting things on there like poutine with pulled pork. Last time I had the taco salad and it was huge with a variety of ingredients and was very tasty. Next time I want to try the nachos. Don't expect too much from the ambiance. While the place is clean it's a typical tavern and the crowd can be a bit rough around the edges. But as all meals are under $10 it's worth it."

June 2009 — "The Tudor House building is over 100 years old although I am sure the neon sign has not been around that long. You enter the pub at the rear, in the front is the entrance to the liquor store. The pub was originally a naval building and it retains the nautical theme inside the pub. The first thing to note in the pub is that there are two serving windows at the bar and you need to go to the bar to order. There is no service at the table so you either choose the drinks or food line. The bar itself is in a ‘L’ shape has pool tables and dart boards at the bottom with a dance floor/band area at the top. We got a jug of beer as those seemed to be a better deal and was surprised the place was not busier as it was a Friday evening. It seems the place only starts to get going later in the evening once the band starts playing. The menu is quite comprehensive and there is a special for each day and Fridays was the prime rib. To order we went back to bar and ordered and paid and were given a number. A short while later our order was called out and we went up to the kitchen serving window to collect our food. I am sure this type of system is not everyone’s favourite although on the bright side, you do not have a waiter to tip. The food was good, the burger was huge, it was called the works burger after all and not badly priced at $10.00. The Tudor House is definitely worth a visit and I will be back."

Description

Over a hundred years old, this historical pub is run like a tight ship. Frequently by locals and the Navy, it is located in Esquimalt, a short distance from the Naval base. The pub menu features standard bar meals, from taco salad and nachos to burger and wraps. Beer is available by the bottle or on tap. There is a good-sized dance floor to go along with live music that is featured on Saturday nights.
