July 2009 — "The Silver Gate Restaurant in South East Calgary is definitely a diamond in the rough. Outward appearances are not great, located on the corner of a rundown strip mall, had a friend not recommended this place I can say with confidence that I would never have even noticed it was there. The interior is worse for wear, no renovations have been performed in at least twenty years, but at least it's clean. You can order a combination dish for around nine dollars and I had the Ginger beef, Almond Gai Ding and Chicken Fried Rice. The service was great and the food came fast. It was then that I understood why my friend chose to take me here. The food was fresh and not a bit greasy. The Almond Gai Ding was my favorite, loaded with almonds and chicken in a fantastic Asian sauce. Gorging on Chinese food will normally hurt my stomach and I'll be paying for my diet sins later, but after my meal at Silver Gate I felt great. I felt the value for the amount of food you get was excellent and I will definitely be back again."

Located in an unassuming strip mall just off Ogden Road, this Chinese restaurant has a vintage interior that is complemented by fresh cuisine. The menu is comprised of the usual favourites, in addition to western dishes like hamburgers. They are open from Monday to Saturday from 11am to 10pm, and Sunday from 4pm to 9pm.
