November 2011 — "The Bon Rouge Bistro is located right down town in an older updated building on the corner of Gordon & Courtney street. Red White & black flowed through as the theme with checkered tile floor, a range of seating from booths, to bar stools, to bistro stlye tables, overstuffed high back chairs. I surprized it was very quiet with only a few other tables for lunch time. The bathrooms were also decked out in black & red. The décor throughout the restaurant was very fun and enjoyable. Everything seemed very well put together and clean.
The wine/cocktail list also looked interesting, but we both just ordered a beer. The waitress brought us a basket of fresh sliced bread while we waited for our meal. My friend and I both ordered the prawn crepe served in fennel, garlic, leeks & pernod cream sauce that came with a small side green salad for $14. It was delicious. we both really enjoyed it. They have a lot of french classic items on the menu. It was a little on the higher end pricing for lunch. Things ranged from $9 for the soup to $17 for the bistro steak sandwich. But I did throughly enjoy my lunch and don’t mind paying for the quality and atmoshphere.
My only complaint was it was a chilly autumn day when we were there and we were seated on the right side of the restaurants entrance/hostess stand. my friend & I both found it a little on the cooler side. I didn’t take off my jacket the entire time. I went to the other side of the restaurant to find the restrooms and found it was much warmer. They also have an outdoor patio with above head heaters and fireplaces that looked really nice for a pleasant summers day or evening meal.
We passed on desserts, but the choices were Apple Tart, Lemon Cheesecake, Chocolate Pate or Creme Brulee. All were priced at $8.
I was pleased with my meal and would definitely go back and perhaps try the mussels next time.

November 2011 — "Went to this restaurant as a group for a work lunch. There were 16 of us for lunch. We made reservations but did not pre-order. We were all able to sit at two tables very close together and were able to communicate with each other. They were very prompt to take our order. There was also a wide range of choices on the menu. The price was moderate, between $8 and $20 per entree. As we were on a lunch hour, the food arrived very quickly and everyone was very pleased with their lunch. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was very good.
We all had separate bills and that was handled very efficiently as well.
The restaurant was also very quaint and decorated nicely with an Italian ambiance.
I would recommend this restaurant as the staff were friendly, efficient and the food was very good. Everyone was completely satisfied with their meal and we would all go back again."

Reservations are recommended for this popular French bistro located in the inner harbour in downtown Victoria. There's a definitive West Coast take to the menu as well with offerings such as island mussels, escargots in puff pastry, prawn crepe, and cedar wrapped spring salmon. They are open daily.
