July 2009 — "The Sultan’s Palace Cafe is a Lebanese restaurant and hookah bar in downtown Edmonton. I would never have visited this place if my favourite hookah joint hadn’t recently been closed due to a fire, and I will probably wait until that place reopens before enjoying another hookah. The Sultan’s Palace is lacking atmosphere, music and even the most basic service standards. The shisha menu was reasonable but we soon learned that they mix all the flavours together to make it easier for the staff, who I really have no sympathy for after our experience. Our server disappeared almost as soon as we got our orders, and the rest of the staff was too focused on their card game to notice us, even when we were just trying to pay and leave. At one point, two of the servers even started to fight with each other. To be fair, the food that we saw looked and smelled pretty great but I doubt I’ll bother ever giving it a try."
