"Best Pho Soup in Calgary! "

November 2011 — "I have tried all sorts of different Pho soups at all different Vietnamese Restaurants here in town. My sister in Law brought us to Golden Bell on 17th ave and we have gone three times in the last cpl weeks. The Pho soup they serve is an original for sure. The broth is made out of a Peanut Satay and very full of flavor. We have not seen this anywhere else. It is quite spicy so not for someone who is sensitive to flavor and spice. We also enjoyed their Salad rolls and my daughter loves their subs. But we just cant get enough of the soup. I love the amount of Seafood they put into the soup. I find some other places are a real rip off with the amount of meat in the soup, and I usually order extra so i expect a decent amount. My wife doesn't order Pho anywhere else, but she is really addicted the beef satay soup here and just cant get enough of it. Its truly our new favorite spot and cant wait to try all the other menu items! "

"The Flavor counts!"

November 2011 — "We are in-love with Golden Bell Saigon on 17th Avenue Calgary. Everything we have tried so far has beat our expectations. We are still blown away with the Pho Satay soup everytime we go. And we are addicted! We just cant seem to get enough and crave it everyday. My husband orders the Seafood Satay soup and I order the Beef Satay soup and share it with my daughter. She also really enjoys their subs. WE have gone 3 times in the last week. We are huge fans of Vietnamese food, but this place tops any other restaurant in Calgary. The key is in the flavor and it really counts! The soup broth is made with a peanut satay base and is very good. You just cant get any better! The service we have received all three times has been fast and friendly. I left my purse last time we were there at our table, and they went out of their way to run out into the cold to make sure it was returned to me. The girls are all full of smiles and know exactly what we want! Our new regular spot we adore!! "

"Delicious Viet Subs"

May 2011 — "There's never been a shortage of Vietnamese cuisine here in Calgary and Golden Bell Saigon restaurant is just one of many choices in our city. It is located on the heart of the west end of 17th Ave right next to the Boston Pizza. The store is quite spacious and clean for a Vietnamese shop and there is plenty of seating along with TV's to catch your sports game. There is also nothing to complain about in terms of service as its always been fast and friendly. I need to admit that the only time I visit this shop is for their Vietnamese sub specials on Tuesdays when it is $5. It is one of the best and biggest Vietnamese subs money can buy in this town. Their beef satay sub is made with quality beef and the pepper is sure to have you breathing fire. Definitely give this place a try."

"Delicious Vermicelli"

February 2011 — "The Chinook Golden Bell location on Macleod Trail is definitely the better of the two. The food always arrives so quickly, and I really like the layout of the restaurant and the friendly staff. I have never once been disappointed. Generally I like to order soup when I go for Vietnamese, but I definitely recommend the vermicelli noodle bowls at Golden Bell! The portions are huge and everything is done just right. I like the vermicelli with pork and spring rolls. The meat is always fresh and perfectly seasoned, and the spring rolls are definitely the icing on the cake! I always get some peanut sauce on the side for dipping. There are tons of Vietnamese places to go in Calgary, but Golden Bell is definitely up there with the best. Their soup is also delicious as are the prawn salad rolls. For an all out perfect Vietnamese experience, this is the place! "

"Great Vietnamese Soup!"

November 2010 — "My girlfriend and I got the craving for Vietnamese soup, and were over by Chinook. So we ended up at the Golden Bell Saigon restaurant right across from Chinook Mall on Macleod Trail. The place is quite bright and clean, and our server was quite funny and very friendly. We had an order of spring rolls to start, which came right away and were great. We both ordered the number 55B, which was the spicy peanut sate soup with beef. WOW! It was pretty spicy but so delicious! Once we got used to the spice, it was fine. The peanut flavor was really a great addition, and most Vietnamese places in the city don't offer that in their sate soup. The bowl it was served in had to be one of the biggest I have seen and neither of us were able to finish. At $10 per bowl, I would say we got our money's worth. There was plenty of beef and noodles and the flavor of the broth definitely hit the spot. Great little place to go for Vietnamese!"

"Great food, strange experience"

September 2010 — "My boyfriend and I went for dinner to the 17th Ave SW location. The first impression was not very good. We could see two people inside eating, but when we tried the door, it was locked. We checked the hours on the door and checked the time to find it was only 8:30 pm, and well within business hours. We were about to leave when a woman came behind us saying she had ordered take out so they must be open! We knocked on the door and someone finally came to let us in. We sat ourselves and my appetite immediately declined because of the cleaner they were using on all the floors. That's all you could smell. The rest of the experience was fine. The service was prompt and friendly and the restaurant was clean. We both had sate noodle soup and the portions were generous and the soup itself was delicious. We felt a little bit rushed at the end as we were the only customers left and they were obviously waiting to close, even though it was still within their hours. If you are looking for quality Vietnamese food, this is a great place, but don't expect too much else. "

"Decent Vietnamese on 17th"

June 2009 — "Formerly the Arden, and most recently an Italian place, this spot is known for its turnover as much as any other spot on 17th Ave. Fortunately, Calgary likes its Vietnamese food so places like this tend to stick around. The interior is tidy and classic rather than cluttered like many Vietnamese places, and very sunny due to its large south-facing window (and patio when weather permits). The service was polite, although sometimes with so many people filling our glasses and checking on us, it was hard to keep track of who our server was. I ordered a surprisingly rich vegetable curry on rice with a hint of coconut flair, and more variety of vegetables than I have grown used to at other Viet places. And the great thing about Viet food; it is almost always enough for at least two meals. The leftovers were just fine. Three of us ate for less than $40 (although we were drinking cans of pop, which probably helped). "
