June 2010 — "I recently picked up lunch at Spice Cafe to take back to my office. I had been craving a good Thai curry since returning from Thailand in January and figured I'd try this little spot out. I ordered the Thai Green Curry with chicken and waited for probably 5-10 minutes while it was prepared. I took it back to my office, savouring the odour of the curry in the elevator. As I sat down at my desk and opened the takeaway container, I felt confident that this would be an authentic tasting Thai curry. I wasn't disappointed there. It was a nice curry, but I had asked for it to be prepared medium-spicy and it wasn't spicy at all so that was a bit disappointing. The portion was also very small, with a bit of rice, a couple of pieces of chicken and a couple of vegetables (including broccoli, which I can't eat, but hadn't thought to ask about because I have never seen broccoli in a Thai curry before). I don't like when places serve enormous portions but this was a very small portion and I was still hungry afterward. And for the price, I had hoped to be full after eating.
Overall, I found the food to be tasty but definitely overpriced, particularly for the portion size. I will likely go back and try one of their Malaysian dishes, because that is supposedly their expertise, and hope that this time it fills me up."

November 2009 — "When I first discovered this café about 2 years ago, I could not get enough of their curry beef on rice. At the time, it was very attractively priced at $5.95 and I made it usual spot to eat. I was extremely pleased with the quality, price and service and wished I knew how to make this curry at home. However, nearing the end of the 2 year period, I noticed the store owners branching out and opening more locations in Kensington and down town Calgary and it was at that same time, that I noticed the quality of food lessen. The rice portion remained the same, but the curry and beef was reduced. On top of that, the priced slowly creeped up until one day I realized I was paying 8 or 9 dollars for the same dish. Normally I would understand that costs have gone up, but coupled with the downfall in quality, I just couldn’t reconcile the value any longer. I feel they tried to expand too quick too soon and did not pay attention to what they were doing so well in the beginning. I went back just last month and nothing has improved. I did notice that 2 of their newly opened locations were closed as well, perhaps an indication of how their customers felt. I hope that they will go back to their roots and return their food to what it was once before and I will gladly return."

May 2009 — "This little cafe specializes in Malaysian rice/noodle dishes. For example, I ordered the Beef Curry on rice for $7.95. It's really close to my work so I go there every now and then for a quick bite to eat. I don't go often though because the prices are quite expensive for what you order. It used to be alot cheaper and used to taste a lot better. The beef was good but I found it a bit too rough and the rice was a little dry. I'm not sure if that's due to personal taste. I also got a mango bubble tea. While the service was good and the server really nice, I was quite disappointed in the food. The dish itself was just okay, definitely not worth the high price and the bubbles in the Bubble tea were hard. I have definitely had better elsewhere; both food and drink. It's a nice place to maybe sit for a coffee and chat but I wouldn't recommend eating there. "

March 2009 — "This cafe specializes in Malaysian cuisine such as malaysian curry and noodle soups (malaysian satay soup and the lak-sa). They had two parts to the restuarant, one side is the quick-grab-and-go with simple sandwiches, noodle soups and curry and rice. The other side had a nicer decor to it, making it a bit more loungy with comfy couches and nice window view of the downtown street.
The lounge side had a bigger menu, with an assortment of rice bowls, burgers, stir frys, lak-sa and hot sandwiches. I had the thai coconut salmon (15dollars including tax) that came with a nicely grilled 6oz. piece of salmon, jasmine rice which I thought was cooked well, and some seasonal veggies. The thai coconut sauce was so tasty, I would have this again if I don't end up trying everything else on the menu. My friend had the sambal seafood, double super hot! He really enjoyed that, adding that you can't find a resturant in Calgary that knows how to cook sambal.
The server is really nice, and did the best she could with a full house. I guess how they have set it up is kind of like cafe style, casual, where you can pay first, and then the food is served to you. She served us a complimentary freshly blended mango juice which was very good. I then ordered a fresh strawberry bubble tea which was blended up just thick enough and the bubbles were soft and chewy. What a perfect way to end a good meal.

Located downtown, this cafe serves the lunchtime crowd and is open during regular business hours. Along with serving a variety of coffees and panini sandwiches and the like, this restaurant also had a large Malaysian menu. Curry bowls, sate soups and bubble tea are all on the menu.
