July 2011 — "My husband and I always enjoy going for afternoon tea, his reasons stem from a love a tea, and mine a love of tiny sandwiches and an elegant excuse for a mid-day snack. To try somewhere new, we ventured out to find Point Ellice House, which is something of a needle in a messy haystack. The home and gardens are charming, but surrounded by a ugly industrial area, and next to a junk yard. While I cannot say must for their customer service, it was a lovely area. However, we had to go in through the gift shop (completely unstaffed) and walk around most of the property before we found other people have tea in the backyard area who directed us back to the gift shop. We then had to call around for service, and we're helped by a man drinking a Tim Hortons coffee - we were less than impressed. As I mentioned earlier, this was charming, but far from elegant. The tea pot cozies to protect the pots were worn out, and the food was much to heavy to be considered a "tea service". There were pieces I enjoyed, like the classic egg salad sandwich, but our soup came too cold and had little flavour. The price of the tea included a tour of the Point Ellice House if you were so inclined. We did not indulge, but did enjoy the sun. While this was a decent spot, there was nothing exceptional, and I will look for other afternoon tea services before returning to the version served at Point Ellice House."
