January 2010 — "Old British Fish & Chips is unlike any other restaurant in Victoria. It's a strange place indeed. Maybe it's just a generational gap, or a cultural gap, but the place depresses me. The service is good, the food is ... well, its fish and chips, it is what it is, but the atmosphere is such a bummer. First of all, the restaurant is tucked away in a cave under a 1970s condo complex. Inside, it's dark and old. I understand that they are trying to preserve its character, but it's like they haven't even let it develop any character. Finally, the silence is uncomfortable. The couple of times I've stopped in, they haven't played any ambient music of any kind, and it has never been busy. It's just awkward sharing a quiet dinning room with a couple of strangers and being able to hear each other perfectly. Like I said though, the staff is great, and the food is fine. So if your in the mood from some old British fish and chips, maybe stick with take out. But be sure to pick up, the place is worth seeing at least once."
