September 2008 — "Half Moon Bay restaurant has become one of K's favorite places to dine. Its combination of good food, reasonable prices, excellent service, and "atmosphere" make it one of North Tonawanda's best kept secrets. Tucked away just beyond railroad tracks is a brick box of a building. It appears on the outside lto be just a neighborhood bar. Once we stepped inside, we found that the restaurant is the bulk of the operation. Half Moon Bay's decor brings a little tropical flair to an area that spends much of the year shoveling snow. Palm trees, parrots, and rattan furniture create the ambiance. We were cordially greeted and seated every time by our waitresses. K discovered pan fried perch, a favorite dish of hers. Although she has enjoyed perch at other restaurants, Half Moon Bay's is by far the best. It is prepared in a variety of ways: plain, lemon pepper, cajun, and lightly breaded. D went with the special at each visit. The Italian haddock was light and delicious sprinkled with parmesan and topped with tomato slices. The strip steak was cooked just right. The prime rib (a Saturday night special for two) was shared with K and was not quite on a par with the other dishes. The side dishes really enhanced each meal. The twice baked potatoes were wonderful. The cole slaw, potato salad, and macaroni salad met K's high standard of tasting like they'd been homemade. Half Moon Bay is an unexpected treat. It deserves attention from people looking for some place different. There are daily specials and desserts that K and D look forward to trying. The chicken pot pie has piqued our interest. "
