February 2010 — "I went to this restaurant on 17th avenue for lunch on a Friday. I had walked past it several times and was always intrigued. I’m glad that I finally went in. I arrived a bit later than the typical lunch rush hour and I was seated immediately at the kitchen ‘bar’ as I was dining alone. The atmosphere was very quaint and cozy. Although they had a nice variety on the lunch menu, I ordered one of the lunch specials. It was a smoked turkey sandwich on a baguette with apples, brie cheese, and a cranberry spread. It was absolutely delicious. Probably the best sandwich I have ever had. It was so good. The sizing was just right since with the sandwich alone I was very satisfied. I enjoyed a glass of Reisling wine with my meal which was a nice pairing with the sandwich thanks to the recommendation of my waitress. The service was very fast and very friendly. The prices were average for a nice café. I highly recommend this restaurant."

January 2010 — "Four friends and I decided to go to Farm on Monday night. We brought in 2 bottles of wine as it was free corkage night (up to 2 bottles). The service was quick and friendly and our wine glasses were constantly refilled throughout the night.
We decided to start out with the 5 cheese selection for $25 – a mushroom-y brie, aged gouda, a sharp cheddar, a fruity goats milk and an aged cheddar. Each cheese was paired with a different compote – dried apricots, chilli tomato jam, scallions, hazelnuts and blueberry jam, respectfully. Each cheese was unique and interesting. Mini baguette rounds were provided.
For the main meal, we shared four different plates. We ordered the daily special which was the hanger steak with potatoes. The steak was extremely tender but had a hay/straw aftertaste – definitely reminded us of an actual farm.
We then had the Grilled cheese with Canadian 3 year raw milk cheddar, Oka and a tomato chili jam which made the sandwich both sweet (from the jam) and savoury. We also ordered a large Janice’s bubbling, mildly spicy mac n’ cheese. This dish was the ultimate favourite of the group. It was warming and the bread crumbs on top were slightly spicy. All the KD-lovers of the group changed their minds almost instantly. Both the sandwich and the mac n’ cheese were served with sweet pickles on the side.
We then tried the Honey brined quail with Hotchkiss swiss chard, baby carrots Brassica mustard demi glace. This dish was the least favourite – it wasn’t as flavourful as expected and tasted much like boiled chicken.
In general, the dishes are quite small - a hungry person would probably have to eat at least 2-3 dishes on his/her own before feeling full.
Nonetheless, this is a great place to try out different flavours and we would definitely return for another round of unique flavours.

November 2009 — "We had Sunday Brunch at FARM on 17th Ave. The staff let us know we would have a 20 minute wait. They took our names so we could walk around and not have to stand at the door. The place is difficult to move around when many people are walking around. We checked out the cheese shop in the back. The shop next door had a variety of novelty items that diverted our attention while we waited.
I ordered the French Toast with Blueberries and Vanilla Whipped Cream for $10.00. The French Toast was very good. My companion opted for the cheese and meat plate. He chose 3 items for $15.00. The coffee was 4.00 for 1 cup and 1 coffee press left on your table. It was nice not to be interrupted by a waiter wanting to know if you needed more coffee. However, the coffee was pricey at $4.00. You could have a large coffee at a coffee shop or restaurant for half the price. The place was full and several short lines formed while we ate.
The portions were small. The brunch menu varies week to week. If you enjoy quality food, you will enjoy FARM. If you are hoping for traditional brunch fare of bacon and eggs, pancakes, omelettes,... you may want to check out other places.
The restrooms were exceptionally clean. The staff were friendly and attentive. The decor was simple and stylish. The food was very tasty."

January 2009 — "Farm is a relatively new restaurant to trendy 17th Ave in Calgary and it is a welcome change from the many pubs that line the street. Farm focuses on using food that is produced from a sustainable farm or operation and uses local products whenever possible. It is a very small restaurant so on a weekend, make reservations or be prepared to wait. There is one large table that can seat a number of small parties at the same time, adding to the communal feel of the place. The place has a real social feel about it.
Farm specializes in tasting plates and primarily cheese tasting plates. They have a good assortment of cheeses to choose from and to order a number of tasting size cheeses amongst a small group is a great way to get to sample some of them. The portions are small so it is best to order at least one cheese flavour per person sharing the plate. They also have a good selection of wines to go nicely with the cheeses.
For a meal, I decided to go all out with the cheese and get the goat cheese fritter with spinach and beets. It was amazing. The flavours all went so well together and it was obviously a well thought out menu item. The portions are small for most of the meals except the macaroni and cheese. A cheese tasting plate to start and one of the meals is a perfect dinner size. And I decided you can never have too much cheese!
I would highly recommend eating at Farm if you are after something different."

Farm offers classic, down-to-earth food made from fresh, seasonal and sustainable ingredients. Mingle over a board laden with fine cheeses and meats or order a home-style dish such as the natural artisan sausage, goat cheese fritter or mac n' cheese.
