February 2012 — "We visited the restaurant on a regular weeknight (Tuesday I believe) and there was not many people in the restaurant. This was good as we assumed there would be more food available for us to pick through. We sat down at a table close to the buffet counters as per our request. Our server asked for our selection of beverage. We picked water because that was the only beverage free of charge. The server spotted a dirty gunk on the inner-side of the cup and walked away with it. My eyes followed her to the bar and I watched her pour some water into the cup and swooshed it and dumped it down the sink. She came back with the same cup. I was very disappointed. The other cup was also dirty but she didn't bother to clean it for us. She poured the water into the two cups and pretended nothing ever happened. She walked away. I quickly flagged down another serve and demanded for two other clean cups. This was a terrible beginning of our dining experience. The quality of food was average. It usually is just average on most days. Food was too greasy and too over fried on deep fried items. "

"Great selection!"

July 2011 — "Buffet Yangtze is located in Deerfoot Mall. I went there for lunch and the price is actually less than 15 dollars. There is a great selection of western and eastern food including soups, salads, appetizers, sushi, rice and noodles. I love this place because you can pick what you like and not eat what you don't. Service is ok. I mean you stand up to get your own food but the servers will come and clear your dishes and fill up your water. Food is not the freshest but it is at a buffet where they make over a hundred different items. I haven't gone for dinner there but I assume that it is a little more expensive with a bit more selection. There aren't that many desserts to select from the huge selection of items for main dishes definitely makes up for it. I think everyone should try this place at least once to see if they like it and of course, go with a hungry stomach!"

"Chinese Buffet"

Save Review

November 2010 — "A group of us decided that we hadn’t been to a buffet in a while, and out of habit, decided to see if this place was still around. I guess it’s been a while since we’ve been to a buffet but it cost an astonishing $18. I do not recall it ever being that pricey but it certainly made me want to eat lots and get my money’s worth. After being seated, we ran off to fill our plates right away. I was happy to see that fresh food was coming out constantly and it was hot. It had the standard foods such as Chinese noodles and sweet and sour pork, as well as a salad bar. I don’t recall anything sticking out in terms of things I must try, or anything that I hated so I think overall, it was okay. Again, not great, but not bad either. I think in general, I need to stay away from buffets. They force you, or you force yourself to eat too much, and the food is never that great. I’m sure we’ll be back eventually, but I think that craving has been satisfied for a long while."

"great price and lots of choice"

October 2010 — "My friends and me who live in Hong Kong and ate lunch buffet on October. I knew this restaurant provides good food with cheap price when I was living in Calgary few years ago. This is my first time to came here and I think that it is really difficult to find a nice place and price like this restaurant. This restaurant exceed my expecation. We enjoy a lot of hot food, desert and fruit and stay for around 2 years. The environment is quiet with soft music and chair which make you feel comfortable and relax. There are around 100 dishes for me to choose and I like dim sum, chicken, desert and fruits the most. I would like to recommend my friends or colleagues who come from Hong Kong to taste this yummy and great food and make them feel satisfied. Ming Ming (Hong Kong) "

"Best Chinese Buffet in Calgary"

February 2010 — "There's a lot of places in Calgary that have chinese buffet but Buffet Yangtze is for sure the best one I've found. Currently their buffet dinners on top of the regular fried chicken wings, ginger beef and won ton soup, they also have prime rib, salmon sashimi and even crab legs all you can eat. That's amazing considering the price per person is under $20. Not to mention everything actually taste great. Also it's a really big restaurant too, there's probably close to 100 tables. So even though tonight was chinese new years and valentines day and not getting there till 7pm, the wait was still only about 15 minutes. Over all it was an awesome deal, great food and service was good too even though all they had to do was take our empty plates away and fill our water. We'll go back for more for sure since the selection is different for lunch dinner and dim sum on the weekends as well. "

"Large Buffet"

January 2010 — "Visited the Chinese buffet restaurant located in Deerfoot Outlet Mall. It boasts as being “Calgary’s Largest Premiere Buffet” and has Chinese and Canadian cuisine. They also claim to have over 100 items in their buffet and that they can seat over 300 people. There was lots of variety and different types of food to choose from and I think there would be enough variety to make everyone happy which is a great aspect of a buffet. The décor was simple and typical of a Chinese restaurant. They also had a small salad bar and an ice cream bar for dessert. My favourite were the egg rolls which are the type I am used to having from Montreal with the folded ends. I also really enjoyed the won ton soup, spare ribs and the friend rice. Although I am not a fan I did notice that they also had a Dim Sum section which seemed popular."

"Good Selection, Especially for Lunch."
Image

Save Review

October 2009 — "My dad loves this place, so when he calls me up to go for lunch, it's always a pretty good bet we'll end up here. And frankly, that's just fine by me. Yangtze features an exceptional selection of Western-Chinese, Japanese and Cantonese foods to choose from. I particularly like indulging in the buffet's selection of Dim Sum items, such as steam pork dumplings and sticky rice. As you might expect the Western-Chinese items, like ginger beef and the sweet and sour pork chops are also very well done. My dad claims that during some nights, they prepare deep-fried frog legs. I can't say I've been privy to them, but judging by the delight he showed when describing them too me, I'm guessing they're pretty good too. The service here is quick and dependable. Our dirty plates were bussed quickly, and our tea was constantly being replenished; which at a buffet is all you can really ask for. So if you're in the North end of the city and you enjoy quantity over quality, give this place a shot. It's definitely worth the price."

"Food that fills you"

September 2009 — "Supposedly, Buffet Yangtze is said to be a great buffet with a multitudinous selection of foods. And yeah, there is, but really, it is all about the quantity and not at all focussed on the quality. To be honest, a lot of the food looked good, but it falls flat. It is one tone and it truly lacks any real flavor. But I guess without any idea of what to eat, it gives you a good idea of what you don't want to eat in a sea of good looking, but not so good tasting foods. This place fails to impress in taste and service, but decor and variety is alright. They have dim sum for lunch and deep fried assortments, noodles, veggie dishes, salads, congee, tarts, buns, ice cream desserts, some sushi rolls and many others. I have been told that their evening buffet is not bad, but I have a hard time believing day and night are so different. It might be fun if you just want to try, but it's not my meal of choice. But good value for your buck. "

"Buffet time~"

January 2009 — "If you are totally starving and feel like you can eat an elephant, then this is the place to go! It's all you can EAT...need i say more?? The restaurant has about 100 dishes, including a salad bar and dessert section. The dishes are mostly Chinese with a bit of local foods(i.e fries and fired chicken) Now here comes the tricky part - if you have lunch the price is about $11 per person but if you have supper then its about $6 to $8 more, depending on when you go(weekends are more expensive). Then you may ask" what is the difference?" The main thing, is that they only serve shasimi(raw fish) and crab legs in the evenings, so if you don't eat either of the two, then go for lunch, you can save a whole bunch! The service was good, they often came and took your plates away before you could build a tower, and the decor was smart with a big fish tank to entertain the kids. So next time you feel hungry like a lion, go and devour this place! - that's what i did.. "
