January 2012 — "I went to Vin Room at the recommendation of a friend who is a bit posh -- usually, I'm more at home in a dive bar but I do enjoy decent wine so I decided to give it a try. I wasn't disappointed ... however, my wallet was a bit disappointed in me as it's obviously quite a bit more pricey than the dive bars. Still, I think that's to be expected when visiting an elegant wine bar in Mission. We each tried a couple of red wines -- I stuck with ones on a lower end of the menu (about $9 a glass) while my friend went for a couple of the pricer ones (about $17 a glass.) I was happy with my selections -- especially the delicious Malbec -- because, to be honest, I couldn't tell the difference. I guess I'm just unrefined. We also shared a few of their cheese. They don't really have a standard cheese platter -- you just pick different selections from their "charcuterie" menu (gosh, I feel awfully pretentious using the term charcuterie) and make your own cheese/meat dish. The cheese we had were great but it can really add up as each cheese you order is about $5 or $6 for a couple of pieces. Nonetheless, I enjoyed trying the different cheeses. The decor is great, albeit a little bit uncomfortable (but hey, who needs comfort when it looks good right?) All in all, I think this is a great place -- yes, a little bit pretentious for my taste, but worth a try if you're looking for en elegant night out. "

Located in the 80-year-old Mission Cycle building, Vin Room has tranformed this space into a swanky wine bar. An Enomatic Wine System (one of the largest being used in Canada) wine is preserved, and served by the glass -- each serving tasting like it is from a newly opened bottle. Vin Room has 65 bottles of wine available to taste by the glass or 2oz tasting. A full menu, designed by Chef Kai Salimaki, is available, featuring many tapas-sized plates to share. The decor is modern, complete with chaise lounges, a Mirano glass fire place and chandeliers.
