December 2009 — "Hernandez is hands down my favourite place to eat in Victoria. The menu and dishes are simple, but oh so good, and the prices are more than fair. Also, the staff is totally cool and always curtious to me. I especially enjoy their unique style of handleing orders: they give a card with a Spaish word and picture to match to the customer upon ordering. When the food is ready, they simply call out what is on your card. It's like eating out and learning Spanish at the same time.
I recommend the Burriot Classico (vegetarian) and the tacos, all of which are wrapped in what seems to be authentic, handmade tortillas.
The atmosphere at the downtown location is somewhat mundane but the Bay Street location is much more eye-catching, with a gigantic Our Lady of Guadalupe painting dominating the white plaster dining area. I figure the drastic difference in decore between the two locations has to do with rules imposed by the mall in which the downtown restaurant is situated.
Unfortunately, their hours can be quite sporadic, which is very frustrating on an empty stomach. However, they've got me hooked, and even with such rejection I keep going back. It's that good."

March 2009 — "Hernandez is by far a great place to eat a Mexican dish. The owners are from El Salvador and provide excellent service. There's always a line which might be the only drawback. They've recently opened a second location and serve a few different dishes from the downtown location. I've eaten at both locations a few times and everything I've tried is fantastic. 5 taco's for $5 is still my favorite dish but the chicken mole is also a good one to try. The new location also has an organic beef burrito that's yummy. The downtown location is now closed at 5pm with the new location located on Bay Street opening at 5pm (the owner works at both locations so there's no compromized service). I've taken many friends to Hernandez and I don't know anyone who hasn't gone back! As a side note, both locations are licensed and serve Corona and other beers."

March 2009 — "Hernandez is a Mexican restaurant or it might be best described as a take away rather than restaurant. Friends of ours suggested we eat there, as according to them this was the place for the best Mexican food, even better than in Mexico. I am glad we had our friends with us to provide directions as the restaurant does not seem to have any signage advertising themselves. It is situated below an office type building on the corner of Bay and Shakespeare streets and it is quiet small inside with only a couple of tables and a long bench. There was a bit of a queue to get served plus both tables were being used and the bench was full of people waiting for their orders so the place was busy. The menu is written on brown paper bags and is stuck on the wall as there are also notes not to park in the residential streets. I went for the chicken or pollo burrito while my spouse had the pork burrito and both cost $7,95. The food did not take long to be prepared and the service from the owner and rest of the staff was friendly and efficient. The food was great, worth it and definitely a place to go back to. Maybe in summer there will be a few tables and chairs outside."

January 2009 — "I've been to Hernandez a bunch of times in the past year. I was initially thrown by the fact that's it's located in an upscale downtown shopping mall, and has such limited seating, but after trying the food, I couldn't recommend it more. I've tried a few things on the menu and recommend everything! The tacos (5 for $5) are a great deal, and perfect for a light meal or snack, while the burritos are a little heavier and more filling. Absolutely everything is delicious, and more authentic tasting than most of the Mexican you find this far North. Hernandez is by far one of my favorite places to eat in Victoria...and it's conveniently located across the street from PIG, one of my other faves. I suggest trying to avoid peak lunch and dinner times, as seating is limited, and fills up quick. Supposedly they have opened another location, outside of the downtown core, which means parking and seating may be less of an issue. I'm going to check it out this weekend."

This tiny restaurant is so small it is easy to miss, but it shouldn't be. Serving authentic and fresh Mexican meals, customers can get take out or eat in if a seat is available (although it is limited). Chimichangas and burritos are featured regularly on a limited menu that changes daily.
