June 2009 — "The Vietnam Garden Restaurant is a bit of a local secret and is situated on Admirals Road a few yards from the intersection with Esquimalt road. It is not easily visible so you need to slow down or may drive right by it. After living in the neighbourhood for a few months, we decided to give it a try rather than on walking by. The restaurant is long and narrow and we were advised to grab any seat and given menus immediately. This restaurant used to be in downtown Victoria on Cook Street and was extremely successful before the owners took a break to have a family and have now decided to reopen in Esquimalt. I found this all out by reading the menu that also included newspaper clippings of positive reviews from local papers. There is a specials board but I decided to try a beef teriyaki dish along with some spring rolls to start. The spring rolls were excellent and filling and I would have been satisfied with that for my dinner. The teriyaki dish was good as well and served with rice. I could not finish and got my leftovers to go and they kindly provided more rice free of charge. The owner is also the chef and he was friendly and chatting to customers while he is also a painter and has his artwork on the walls and they are for sale. This is a good place for Vietnamese and will probably become a favourite."

"OLD FAVORITE - NEW LOCATION"

February 2009 — "I finally found my favorite vietnamese restaurant in Victoria. Vietnam Garden Restaurant which was formally located on Cook and Pandora is now open at 524 Admirals Road. They closed shop for a while to start a family. Vietnam Garden Restaurant has been on the 'Best of Victoria' list for a number of years and for a very good reason. The new location is smaller but very clean and tastefully decorated. The food is just as good as it was at the previous location. The owner personally checked in with us to ensure we were enjoying our meal which is always a nice touch. If you are a fan of Pho, this is the best place for beef brisket soup! The menu is not overwhelmingly huge and intimidating it has just the right amount of selections. The quality of the food was excellent - very fresh! For those of you who are old fans and those looking for a new Vietnamese restaurant to try out, I highly recommend Vietnam Garden Restaurant!"

"Best Vietnamese in town."

January 2009 — "Since we moved to town, my wife and I have been in search of our favorite Vietnamese restaurant. We've tries a few, and most have been pretty decent, but I think we've found our favorite with Vietnam Garden. We decided to try Vietnam Garden after some friends of ours informed us they were moving into the condo building beside it, on Admirals Rd in Esquimalt. We had gone for a walk along the waterway in Esquimalt on a Friday afternoon, and decided to grab a bit at Vietnam Garden before heading home. From reading the newspaper clipping around the restaurant, we quickly established that Vietnam Garden had recently reopened in the present Esquimalt location, after a successful run down on cook street for a few years. It appears that they had been a local favorite in their previous location, and now can claim to be the first Vietnamese restaurant in Esquimalt. The restaurant itself is small, clean and pleasant, decorated with quaint paintings by the owner/chef. My wife and I both order a Vermicelli Rice Bowl with spring rolls and a couple kinds of pork. It arrived fast and hot, and we wasted no time digging in. We both agreed that it was the best Vietnamese we'd tried yet in town. Flavorful, fresh and not greasy...the only complaint we had is that we could use some more fish sauce for our dishes. A pleasant atmosphere with great food and service, and all at the same price you'd pay at inferior restaurants around town. We'll be back for sure...maybe weekly!"
