June 2010 — "I stumbled upon Vegie Bar over two years previous to this trip to Melbourne and have wanted to go back ever since. It was my first ever visit to Melbourne so I had no idea where I was or how I would find it again.
Happily, on my last visit a colleague recommended 'this great vegetarian place' and low and behold, it was the same restaurant I tried previously!
I love this restaurant. It is big and busy and friendly and hip and just great. The servers are the kind of people that you'd want to hang out with and talk music with after their shift has finished, if only you were cool enough to invite them. (Speaking of music, the tunes at Vegie Bar are great, eclectic mix too)
The food is all vegetarian or vegan and doesn't focus on just one style. It's not all Middle Eastern veggie or curry veggie. There are pizzas and salads and stirfrys and a huge variety on offer.
My friend and I sat in the upstairs bit and shared two of the pizzas. While I can't remember the exact toppings I believe one had potato and the other was just a basic vegetarian pizza. They were both delicious. I find some veggie pizzas can be kind of dull but these had plenty of flavour.
We also shared a reasonably-priced bottle of wine for dinner.
I can't say enough thing about Vegie Bar. If I lived in Melbourne, I would want to live nearby so I could become a regular. It proves that a restaurant doesn't have to serve meat to be successful. "

October 2008 — "A good veggie restaurant is hard to come by so The Vegie Bar in Melbourne is a fantastic find. It is a wide open room with very high ceilings in an old building with a wall of windows at the front. It looks and feels trendy and the busy buzz of the place adds to the atmosphere. I love ordering at a restaurant where everything is vegetarian! So easy! The menu features many healthy food options including a selection of what I hear are wonderful smoothies.
We ordered a bottle of red wine from their decent wine list, dips and breads and a Moroccan pizza. The pizza was unusual with a tomato and hummous base. Unusual in a good way as it turned out to be very tasty. The service was friendly without being too in your face friendly and we had a lovely evening there. The prices are really reasonable as well as they have a number of daily specials to choose from. Whether you are used to animals in your meals or a strict vegetarian, The Vegie Bar is a great choice for a meal, a snack or a smoothie."
