December 2010 — "I have never been more insulted. My husband and I decided to stop in at 3:30pm on a Saturday for an early dinner. We had never been to Restaurant 27 before. We thought we would never have a problem getting a table or decent service. We walked in and 3 servers were standing at the bar, it took them 5 minutes just to acknowledge us. The place was empty except for two tables with a total of 7 customers. We were asked if we had a reservation, we stated no. The hostess then said that she would need to find us a table. My husband and I looked at each other an chuckled as there was 20+ empty tables in the place which we could clearly see from the door. After another 5 minutes the hostess led us to a small table in the very back of the restaurant right next to the dirty back door. It was freezing! Another couple who had come in behind us, again with no reservation, was promptly seated in the front section of the restaurant.
Another 5 minute wait before anyone came over with water. After waiting, again quite a while, for someone to take our order we decided to leave as I was literally starting to shiver.
I felt like I was treated very much like a 2nd class citizen. We had been shopping in Edmonton all day so we were dressed appropriately.
What a shame, the menu looked great with reasonable prices, but alas, I never got an opportunity to taste the food because our order was not taken.
I will likely never go back based on the way the servers treated us. They obviously didn't care at all about our enjoyment of the restaurant."

October 2008 — "For a city the size of Red Deer independent restaurants are rarities. Those of us locals who are tired of the usual chain dining experiences were pleased to see a new venue open in downtown Red Deer.
Restaurant Twenty Seven is owned by two brothers who wanted to give Red Deer locals a choice of fresh food and local ingredients. My friend and I recently visited the restaurant to see if they lived up to their promise.
The restaurant is a small narrow building across from the Court House. It's furnished in a sleek, modern style but even that can't camouflage the fact that the place is small and for this reason I think evening meal bookings would be required. The dinner menu and wine list were adequate and it appeared that they had a separate and less expensive menu for the lunch trade.
I chose one of the chicken dishes offered on the menu. It was stuffed with brie and asparagus and was "melt in the mouth" delicious. My friend on the other hand was disappointed with her trout. It was fairly dry and had a strong "fishy" after taste. The vegetables which were the same for both dishes were fresh and tasty.
For dessert we had a fruit panacotta which would have been flavourless if it hadn't had a small drizzle of berry sauce on top. I would recommend trying something else on the dessert menu.
All in all the service was good, the prices reasonable, the surroundings clean and tastefully decorated. I'm sure that Restaurant Twenty Seven will continue to be popular with Red Deer residents. "
