August 2009 — "Smitty's in Sussex, New Brunswick was by far the worst food I have ever had in my life. I ordered Steak and a Shrimp Skewer special and my Mom ordered a Whole Clam special. First of all, the food took almost an hour to get to us. My steak was burnt on the bottom and so overcooked I could not cut it. There was a piece of lettuce and tomato on my plate for decoration that looked about a week old. The piece of lettuce was moldy. My mom's clams were so over cooked all you could taste was the breading on them. The french fries were soggy. The place was very clean and there were a lot of people there. They did not charge me for my steak meal as I only ate part of the baked potato that was on my plate and nothing else. Decent restaurant, but needs a new cook for sure! "

August 2008 — "Decades ago in Alberta, my significant other and I worked at Smitty’s pancake house. This Smitty’s Family Restaurant in Sussex, New Brunswick, shared little in common with our old place of employment.
We started with a half order of perogies for an appetizer. We could have passed on those.
For my entree, I chose the short stack of seven grain pancakes featuring flax plus a side of sausage (but I wished for a ham waffle from the 1980s). I didn’t even get half way through my order of pancakes. They were way too filling.
My partner ordered the tortilla chicken salad. Why would a salad come with no dressing? She had to ask for some dressing. She did get with her salad the promotional bottle of water and accompanying koozie (some kind of neoprene bottle jacket) - hurrah.
The bathroom was spotless. The seating was spotless. The ceilings were spotless. I suspect that this is a rather new establishment."
