June 2011 — "The Barley Mill for years has been one of my ultimate favorite places to go in the summer months. I love the location, the surroundings, the decorations, the menu! Its been around for years and I think it will be here for years to come.
Its a great place to stop in for a beer just to enjoy the glorious patio overlooking the city. Or a full meal as their food is always sure to impress. Their appetizers are full and not skimpy for the price. They have great wings nachos and riblets. They use some very interesting sauces and spices which are sure to please.
The Crab & Asparagus or the Champagne & Roasted Squash soup are a must try atleast once but has always kept me coming back for more. The servings and portions are plenty and very generous. The service is over the top friendly and very efficent. They have about 25 beers on tap, a large notable wine selection and a huge variety of cocktails. A great place to enjoy summer patio season!"

May 2011 — "The Barley Mill is a pub and bar located in the heart of downtown Calgary's Eau Claire district. It is right in front of the Sheraton Hotel and next to the Eau Claire shopping mall but what makes it hard to miss is its unique building. It is a two story building shaped literally like a barley mill. I don't know about the origins of its design but it tends to bring out the old west history that is a part of this city. It is quite a cozy bar on the side with plenty of booths and wooden chairs. There is also an upstairs area and patios on the balcony as well as a large patio area on the side of the restaurant. The food here is adequately priced and the portions are quite generous. The service is always friendly and it is not too busy during the weekends but it does tend to draw a large lunch crowd. It is one of my favorite places to grab a cold beer in the summer time. "

"Food is never disappointing!"
October 2010 — "I have eaten here a couple of times and the food is always great. I don't think I've ever been disappointed. Whenever I find myself downtown near the river/Eau Claire area, The Barley Mill is a great place to grab a bite to eat. The decor is really interesting....old style pub meets modern twist. My girlfriend and I went for lunch, and as always, the experience was good. I had the beef dip with fries, and must say it was one of the best I've had in awhile. It's hard to find a good beef dip these days. My girlfriend had the turkey brie strawberry sandwich with a salad. It's not something I would order but she was very happy with it. We had no problem with the service at all. Everything was fast and correct. The portions are really big and the price is pretty reasonable. And I know they have a great patio in the summer. "

February 2010 — "The part of my meal that pleased me most was the cup of Guinness and asparagus soup! It was delicious! The squash soup was also really good and I loved the hint of spiciness in it.
The beef dip was nothing really to write home about... or bother reviewing. The fries were well over salted but I kind of liked that. My friend had the peanut satay flat bread and I sampled it and it was really good.
Overall a good pub to grab a bite in. The location is nice in Eau Claire and the ambiance/decor was very English pub style which was good too. "

June 2009 — "When out for lunch and a movie on a Saturday afternoon, my wife and I decided to dine at the Barley Mill. I hadn't been there in several years, but remembered it having decent food and a good atmosphere. It was a rainy day so we couldn't sit on one of the many patios, but we chose a nice table near the bar on the main floor. The server greeted us right away and we took a look at the expansive menu. We decided to share hot wings and a chicken quesadilla.
The food came right away and both the wings and the chicken quesadilla were quite good. We also ordered iced teas, and they served it right in the bottle, which was nice. The atmosphere at the Barley Mill was very relaxed and was the perfect place for a pre-movie bite to eat. I will definitely be back to enjoy the patios whenever looking for a place for a nice cold pint on a hot day!"

January 2009 — "The Barley Mill has been a hopping spot for the after work crowd and visitors to Calgary for years, with good reason.
I popped in for a Guinness and pre-theatre snack recently and was impressed with the service, food, and atmosphere.
Our server approached us immediately, offering a beverage and slipping food menus on the table. She was friendly and efficient, bringing our pints in short order, even thought most of the tables were full.
We ordered the Yorkshire pudding appetizer and a vegetarian flatbread pizza. After sipping on our beers and chatting for about fifteen minutes, the food arrived with excellent presentation and side plates so we could divvy it up easily.
The Yorkshire bites were the best I've ever had. The beef was tender, encased in fluffy pastry, and a healthy dollop of medium hot horseradish. The au jus provided made a delightful dip for the bites and we couldn't help making the "this is so yummy" humming noise.
Finely chopped broccoli, zuchinni, peppers, and mushrooms created a colourful topping on the flatbread, and the cheese mixture was just the right amount. The crust was crunchy and tender, with a tangy tomato sauce complementing the combination.
Our service stopped by several times to ensure we were enjoying our food and kept our water glasses topped up. As we were leaving, she chatted with us about the movie we were about to see and made us feel utterly at home.
I'll be certain to heartily recommend the Barley Mill to everyone I know and make it a regular spot before the theatre. "
