March 2011 — "Buzzard's has the atmosphere and feel of a small neighborhood pub, but is located downtown. My girlfriend and I went to have dinner on a week night because they have a coupon for a 2 for 1 dinner in the Entertainment Book. The crowd seemed to be mostly construction workers and most of them were sitting up at the bar. The place was pretty run down and is not really the kind of place I like to take my girlfriend. I ordered the french onion soup as an appetizer and it came in the traditional bowl with tons of golden, melted cheese. It was REALLY good. My main course was the Steak and Guinness Strew which was pretty much a regular stew in need of salt. I wouldn't order it again. At least we didn't feel too ripped off since we had a coupon. They have a huge beer selection, and if the place wasn't such a dive, I would perhaps consider going back to sample it. "
Management Response:
"Glad you enjoyed the soup! We do try not to discriminate against people based on their choice of clothing, and are often busy, crowded and noisy at the bar. We have lots of other places to sit that are quieter next time, over 200 seats inside and another 100 outside. We have also just completed (April 20111) a major renovation, so please come back and check out the fancy new booths, TVs, etc., I think you'll be impressed. "
"Great beer selection!"

March 2011 — "Buzzards is located on 1 St and 10 Ave SW in downtown Calgary. There used to be two sides.....Buzzards was more the bar side and Bottlescrew Bill's was the restaurant side. However, Bottlescrew Bill's seems to be closed now. Buzzards itself is very seedy and smells like many years worth of cigarette smoking inside. They do boast a very large selection of beer, both domestic and import. They had domestic pints on special but were all out of Canadian. Go figure. The menu is quite eclectic, with basic pub grub all the way up to rack of lamb. I ordered the poutine as a starter, and it was okay. It was nothing to rave about though. For my dinner, I ordered the butter chicken, which was kind of a silly choice in a pub like that I guess. It was a bit cold and wasn't nearly as authentic as I would have wanted. It was served with basmati rice, naan, and a small side salad. I don't think I would go back. The atmosphere, paired with the poor food and mediocre service totally turned me off. "
November 2010 — "I was here with my boyfriend. We ordered a lot of appetizers to start. We got the calamari and wings which were both really good. They were really big portions so I was pleasantly surprised. It’s unfortunate that things didn’t continue that way. I ordered the Sonofabitch stew, admittedly because of the name. The stew was just okay. It tasted just like the stuff that we make at home with our crock-pot. Nothing special, it was as if we just threw a bunch of things together and let it simmer for a long time. Again, the calamari and the wings were good. They should stick with pub style stuff. I’ll go back for that as the prices and the portion sizing were good in that regard, but probably not for like a main meal. The main entrees were nothing special to speak of. The service was fine, no complaints there, regular service. "
"Small portions, bad food. Not worth the visit even with a coupon."

September 2010 — "Buzzards is a restaurant that I walked by probably a hundred times, and I should have kept walking had I not purchased a dealfind.com voucher. I figured $25 for $60 worth of food cant be too bad and was disappointed that Buzzards was able to prove me wrong. The location is just on the beltline of dowtown Calgary and is fairly accessible with lots of parking lots nearby. Décor is what you would expect from a place named Buzzards Cowboy Cuisine with lots of wood and cowboy type themes.
After looking at the menu I decided to order the Kobe Beef Burger, I've had it a few times before at other places so knew relatively what to expect. The burger arrived completely dry and over cooked. My jaw got tired just trying to chew on it. The meat was tasteless and tough, definitely not what I would expect from something claiming to be Kobe Beef.
My friends ordered the Bison Ravioli, Pork Rib Chop and the Stew. All of which were very unremarkable. All the portions were extremely small, the pork rib chop was probably the size of half my palm and that was also very, very dry.
The Stew contained AAA Angus beef but it keeping with the theme of the night, it was also very dry, my friend couldn’t even finish eating it. The Bison Ravioli had a hair in it.
Had it not been for the coupon, the prices would have been way to high for what they were serving. Even with the coupon, I had a hard time justifying the value. I think its safe to say I will probably not return to this establishment. "
Management Response:
"We always welcome customer comments, but it is impossible to rectify, or even verify, complaints that are sent out after the fact. Had "Jason" made these comments to his server he wouldn't have been charged at all, thus getting a 100% discount instead of only a 68% discount by using his coupon. An experience such as he described, if true, is usually met by our industry with a grovelling apology and offers of a free meal at another time....
However:
First, I find it incomprehensible that someone would meekly accept, consume and pay for a food item with a hair in it without making an immediate comment to the server. None of our employees recollect such a complaint in the past few months.
Second, we have been unable to find a recent guest-cheque, or combination of guest-cheques, with these four food items and doubt the details of the complaint.
Third, saying the stew was "very dry" is like saying the soup was very dry, although it does expose the bona fides of the critic.
Fourth, oh well, I really can't go on. Our servers and chefs take great pride in their work, and we are all hurt and aggrieved by such comments. Next time, please talk directly to us. We exist only to make people happy. A happy customer will return, an unhappy one won't. After 30 years in business we do understand that we can't make everyone happy all the time, but we do try our very best. Which is why it is so painful to read such spiteful comments.
If "Jason" has any more Dealfind coupons, please contact us and we will be pleased to buy them back from you. Otherwise, keep on walking by."
"Buzz over to Buzzards"

September 2010 — "Last night I took my girlfriend to Buzzards for dinner. The restaurant has the look and feel of a classy and modern saloon. The menu is quite large as you can also order from the menu of the attached pub, and their drink menu features over 80 beers from around the world. My girlfriend and I started with their beer battered calamari and chicken wings. The calamari was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The chicken wings on the other hand were humungous! We went with Bill's sauce (hot-teriyaki?) which was excellent, just the right amount of heat and zip. Our entrée’s were good but a little on the small side. I ordered the 8 ounce steak, and my girlfriend had the half rack of baby back ribs. I was a little disappointed with my stuffed potato as it looked like it had been made weeks ago and frozen, and had very little flavor. All in all, our meal was good and while the price was reasonable I was expecting a little more bang for my buck. I do have to say, that the sandwiches another table ordered looked amazing and I will probably be back for lunch."
August 2008 — "Buzzards has a nice lively atmosphere, and the food is really good. The only problem is the selection. The menu is fairly limited, especially if your looking for something in the 10-15 dollar range. Mostly your options for this price range are limited to burgers and sandwiches, all of which are extremely delicious, if that is what you feel like eating. All in all its a great restaurant, with a very Calgary Stampede vibe, just don't go expecting a large menu to choose from."
Management Response:
"Thanks, Claire, for the feedback. Sorry you didn't find what you were looking for. Our restaurant dinner entrees do range from $15 to $24, but we encourage our servers to make our pub menu available as well. This has 38 items, only 2 of which are over $17, and should have been offered to you if you couldn't find what you wanted. Sorry it wasn't, please come back and try us again. (And FYI, the entire pub menu is available late nights until 1.30am)"

February 2007 — "I went for lunch and was impressed by how quickly our meals were served. It was my first time trying the buffalo burger and it was a good choice-not over cooked, moist and served with barbecue sauce. Buzzards is a good lunch option in the downtown core, reservations are a good idea for larger groups.
"
August 2006 — "I am a frequent customer of Buzzards. They have a great Western-style patio with picnic tables, making it a great place to hang out with a bunch of friends after a hard day at work. They feature a large selection of international beers, but their house specialty, Buzzards Breath, is very tasty too! The menu has a lot of delicious items on it, but the burger (fully loaded) is definitely the way to go!! Be prepared, it's rather large so you better be very hungry. The wait staff is usually quite good too."
Buzzards Restaurant & Bar is a downtown restaurant featuring a varied menu and a comfortable, modern atmosphere. Attached to Bottlescrew Bill’s Pub it shares the same great beer selection with over 275 options available. Try the salmon and quinoa salad or the bacon-wrapped meatloaf.
