January 2011 — "The Cat n Fiddle Pub is on 16th Ave North as you head west. I liked the ambiance, with the dark woods and fairly dim lighting. It was fairly early and not too busy yet and so we were also able to carry on an easy conversion. The menu featured many of the standard bar fair with the addition of some tacos. The special of the evening was a beef taco for only $3.50. I figured I could have three of them and call it a meal. The server laughed out loud and said that there was no way I could eat that much. She recommended that I have only one. It was a lot of food, especially when you consider it cost $3.50!! I enjoyed the taste as well. I decided to have a second one for dessert. I also tried the Wild Rose Brewery beer called Velvet Fog. Particles in the beer create a suspension and give it a foggy appearance. Tastes just like beer though. All in all, an inexpensive and enjoyable experience."

"Huge Quantity of Food!"

January 2011 — "The Cat n Fiddle pub on 16th ave has that dark, Irish feel with lots of wood, pool tables, and a dart board. It looks a little worn in the eating area, but the washrooms look nice and new and are accessible to wheelchairs. The food portions are HUGE and very good...looking around, it seemed to be a consistent theme to heap tons of food on every plate, even on the special (a soft beef taco for $3.50 - one would have done me if I'd ordered it). I chose the Cobb Salad, minus the ham, for around $12 - the salad was huge with lots of good chunks of turkey and egg and cheese, as well as onions and lettuce. I couldn't actually finish the salad and had almost a full lunch the next day. Our waitress was fast and efficient, and the beers were reasonably priced with specials every day (I chose a Keats draft for $6). All in all I'd recommend the Cat n Fiddle - there are nights with music games and live music for those looking for entertainment."

"Great Place for a Pint"

January 2009 — "This is one of my favourite pubs in Calgary and it is located on 16th avenue NW. The pub has an interesting past, as it was previously a funeral home so it is rumoured to have a few ghosts. Thankfully I have not seen any yet and the pub does describe itself as ‘the friendliest pub in town’ and you cannot question that. It has a great cross section of locals and the serving staff are always friendly. My favourite dish is their fish and chips and the one piece is generous enough. The menu is varied and extensive and another favourite is their giant plate of nachos. There are drinks specials every day of the week and the pub has both pool tables and dart boards. Plus it is a good venue to watch live sport as there are many TV’s plus a big screen. There is also a nice patio at the back of the pub but it does get taken over by the smokers during the winter months."

"Outstanding food and service"

September 2008 — "After a long evening of moving house, my folks and I popped into the Cat & Fiddle for some much-needed sustenance. We arrived around nine pm and the pub was brimming with people and a live auction was underway, raising funds for the Rosedale cancer hospice. Despite being screamingly busy with a full section, our server approached our table almost immediately and brought our drinks with lightning speed. She took our food order straight away and our meals came out within fifteen minutes. Impressive. My mom ordered the fish and chips and raved about the crispy batter and curried tartar sauce. My dad ordered a BLT and said the bacon and tomato were the perfect consistency. I ordered the New York strip sandwich and was pleasantly surprised to find it prepared exactly the way I like it, with a thick ribbon of pink in the center. The accompanying french fries were robustly seasoned and crispy. Our efficient and personable server checked on our meals in a timely manner and didn't hesitate to bring me some water. At the end of our meal, she didn't make us wait for the bill and bid us good night in a courteous and professional manner. I was duly impressed with the service and food at this busy pub and I can't wait to return with a group of friends for a lively evening of good times. "

"Anything Goes"

May 2006 — "Simply known by some as "The Fiddle", this pub is a typical Canadian pub without any overt English or Irish theme. There are big screens to watch sports, and a big bar to order beer from, and junktique and sport paraphanalia on the walls. It's in a converted church (so you can feel good about going on Sunday) but there is nothing left inside to give you that impression. There are daily specials that are worth partaking of, including beer and burger for under five bucks. There is a good vibe here, casual, anything goes kinda joint. Students and seniors allike can enjoy a drink here. Like most places in Calgary, they are understaffed so service was slow the last two times I was there. The food selection is pretty good too. We had fish and chips, riblets and burgers--all reasonabley priced and tasty."

"You can't beat the price for breakfast! "

September 909 — "It's a strange thing to find yourself in a pub at 10am on a Saturday morning. But it would seem if you are after a good breakfast for a ridiculously good price, the Cat and Fiddle is where you should be! We saw a sign advertising a breakfast special for $3.95 and decided to try it out. The place was quiet when we arrived, but smelled like bacon and coffee so we knew we were in the right spot. The pub has a really cool atmosphere, with tons of crazy things hanging on the ceilings and walls. There is lots to look at. Our breakfast came very quickly and consisted of 2 eggs (any style), bacon or sausage, toast and hashbrowns. The portions aren't huge, but I would say it was the perfect amount. And for the price, you can't go wrong! Everything was really good! The service was friendly and we were happy to pay the $12.00 for two full breakfasts and coffee. We will definitely go back. "
