May 2010 — "My husband and I decided to go to The Bird of Paradise Pub for dinner. The menu has a good variety of selections to choose from, ranging from Mexican to Pizza, Steaks and more. The appetizer selection was also quite good. The staff are very friendly and they start you off with complimentary chips and salsa. The open décor is Santa Fe style with lots of big windows to bring in the light. We sat in front of the 400 gallon salt water fish tank, which was very interesting. For dinner I ordered the Oriental bowl for $13.95 which came with lots of tasty veges and chicken in a sweet ginger soy sauce served over noodles. My husband ordered the Big Bird Beef Burger Sub for $14.95. It came with a choice of salad, rice or fries and my husband ordered the salad. His meal was a huge 2 patties of beef with mushrooms, bacon and cheese that even managed to fill him up. His meal was good value for the money, as his appetite often exceeds the quantity of food provided. Not in this case however. They also offer a “Bird Club Card” for $29.95 plus GST. We were told that if you dine there for more than 2 times per year it would pay for the cost of the card. After deciding to go for this deal they were unable to provide us a card, as they were locked in the office. We will go there again and try to get the card next time. We have been to this pub several times and would highly recommend it."

"bumpy arrival"

May 2009 — "The first thing you will feel upon driving into the parking lot of the Bird of Paradise is the bump. The reason, a rather poorly situated pothole right at the entrance to the parking lot and there seems to be a stand off between the pub and municipality over this. A sign has been put explaining that the pothole is on municipal property and it is their responsibility to repair it. Anyway, once we had negotiated the pothole, it was into the pub that was quite busy as it was a Friday afternoon. The pub seems popular with the after work crowd but we were able to find a table for four near the door and close to the big fish tank which is a feature of the pub. The pub has large windows that allow in lots of natural light but it did feel like the pub needed a bit of updating. The menu was good and varied and I decided on the 6oz beef burger and it was filling and at $10.50, it was a good deal. They also had chicken, veggie, Portobello and a ‘big bird’ beef burger, which is two burgers so only for the very hungry ones. I am glad I tried the pub but once is probably good enough."

"Pub with Mexican flare"

November 2008 — "A friend and I decided to get together for lunch and catch up as we hadn't seen each other in a while. We decided on the Bird of Paradise Pub. It was bright with lots of windows. It had a Mexican decor with lots of cactus plants and terracotta colouring. The servers were very friendly making us feel right at home welcoming us into this restaurant. They also brought us a dish of fresh salsa and chips to snack on while deciding on lunch. A surprisingly nice touch. The menu had lots to choose from with quite a few Mexican style dishes as well as your standard pub fare, salads, burgers, pasta, natchos. We ordered a half litre of white wine from a good selection off the drink list while deciding on the food menu. The half litre of house white was approx $14. My friend chose the Enchiladas Zuiza for $12.95. The portion was large and had a choice of fries or salad. She said it was good. I chose the Chicken Quesadilla and asked for no onions. The server then asked if I wanted sour cream on the side in place of the onions. I thought, oh that would be nice, but then saw I was charged $1.25 extra for the sour cream! However, the Quesdilla was good and came with choice of salad or fries. I had the salad with their house vinaigrette for $12.95. The portion was also large. The food was fresh and hot when served. It did take about 35 minutes or so to come after we ordered, which seemed long but we were talking and didn't mind. However, if you had a short time limit it may have been an issue. It was moderately busy for a Monday afternoon. I would go back after enjoying a place where one can actually talk and enjoy a meal. "

"Mexican Theme Pub"

October 2007 — "This pub is a little hard to find but it is very nice. I liked the mexican decor and the food had a similar theme - hot chili, quesadillas, and tex-mex burgers. It is very bright inside with high ceilings and windows almost all around. Seating was comfortable and the noise level was not too bad considering the place was very busy. I had a beef burger with guacamole and my husband had a mexican egg dish called Rancho Grande. He said it was very good. I enjoyed my burger as well. The service was excellent. We stayed for a few hours and talked after eating our meals. We did not feel rushed at all even though the place was getting very full. We would go back for sure and next time I think I would try to nachos. The table beside us ordered them and the order was huge! "
