"Best fish and chips!"

August 2011 — "I was super excited to eat here after hearing about it on the Food Network and chatting to other customers in line. There was a super long line up, around thirty minutes at the pier. We actually walked past the place since you have to go down a narrow pathway to get to the pier where Red Fish Blue Fish is located. The restaurant is located in an old cargo box. Seating arrangements are buckets around these small tiny tables. We ordered one order of the fish (halibut out of the choice of cod, halibut or salmon) which came with fries and coleslaw and special tar tar sauce. It was amazing! It was the best tar tar sauce I have ever had and I've eaten fish and chips in London, UK. The fish was less crispy than I've had, which means less batter and grease. It was a lot fresher and didn't feel as greasy compared to other fish and chips I've had. The fries were decent but nothing special. "

"Great Fish Taco cones!"

June 2011 — "Red Fish, Blue Fish is a quaint kiosk located in Market Square to enjoy downtown Victoria. The cook that is by himself is super friendly and very efficient. The kiosk offers a limited part of their main menu that is located on Fisherman’s Wharf; however it’s the best part of the menu! The tuna taco-cones are amazing! Fresh bbq’d fish with coleslaw and pickled onions! My friend loves the salmon taco-cone, and I had to try a piece and the salmon was done to perfection! You can get a half order or a full order which is great to share with a friend. If you are walking around the Market square area, head to the red fish, blue fish kiosk for a great afternoon lunch."

"get in line!"

March 2011 — "We have been trying to get down to check this place out for some time now, and a groupon finally got us out there. This small sea can on the dock, just around the corner from the main inner harbour downtown, is serving some really great food. First of all, get in line a bit before noon, as there were just over 20 people in line ahead of us. Not that they are slow, just busy. The seafood is all local and sustainably caught; which really makes you feel better about it. I had fish tacos, and curry fries and am still looking for a reason to go downtown and try some more options. The tacos were great, very fresh and lightly battered with a delicious crispy slaw. The fries were also great, worth it as a stand alone... by curry fries oh la la... these are worth driving downtown for themselves! We will certainly be back and recommend it often"

"Fish'n Chips Just Got a Dose of Cool "

November 2009 — "One of the more original places to eat in Victoria, I grab a bite here whenever I'm down in the Harbour on an empty stomach. That alone surprises me because I've never been a fan of fish'n chips. All that grease without a leafy green gives me the impression of an old school, and uncreative kitchen. However, Red Fish Blue Fish not only pulls off greasy food that tastes somewhat healthy, but they do it with style and with a conscience. Slinging local and sustainably harvested fish from a recycled shipping container by the ocean, this eatery earns plenty of creativity points, while their young energetic staff simply brush off that old school image of fish'n chips. I highly recommend the Tuna Tacones, or if the waistline isn't an issue, try the Cod Dog. Be wary though, the facilities are very limited as there is only outdoor seating on simple stools, and a bathroom key is required to use the neighboring Yacht Club's washrooms. Also, as with any popular spot in Victoria, the lineups can be quite long, especially in the summer."

"Yummy"

March 2009 — "Red Fish, Blue Fish is located on the pier in downtown Victoria. It is short distance from the Tourist Info centre. It was a very cold and blustery day when we went, but otherwise, there are some stools and bar-counter type seating outside available. This is just a fish and chip stand, but they manage to come across as quite trendy. The service was efficient. Like many Victoria establishments, the cashier was congenial but not overly friendly in a fake way. Just casual and relaxed. I ordered one piece cod and chips for $10. Two pieces of fish would cost you $15. The cod was quite dense, and was more like a halibut. It was very good! The chips are made from fresh potatoes. We actually saw someone cutting the potatoes into the fries, ready to fry. They were perfect chips. Each meal comes with a side of tartar sauce and coleslaw. The batter on the fish was fresh but not overly crisp. And the fish size was good, not too small. I will definitely be revisiting this place in the future and would recommend it to anyone. I love that they try to be sustainable. They also offer lots of different foods, like fish tacos or wraps. "

"Great Fish and Chips"

February 2009 — "Redfish Bluefish offers great seafood, especially the fish and chips, and is located on the pier just off Wharf street in downtown Victoria. They specialize in offering sustainable seafood under the ocean wise program which helps restaurants make environmentally friendly choices when it comes to the seafood they offer. There is a board on the pier showing where the fish is caught and methods used. For fish and chips, you can choose between halibut, salmon and cod and it is served with coleslaw and fries. The cost will depend on the type of fish but the one piece will start at $10. You can get you your meal to go or choose to eat it on the pier at the tables that have been set up. There are also fish tacos and sandwiches on the menu. Redfish Bluefish also has a recycle program where your plate and cutlery can be deposited into their recycling and composting bins. An old shipping container acts as their kitchen and serving station and despite the cramped looking conditions, they are well organized and your meal is ready within a few minutes."

"Excellent Fish & Chips!"
Image

Save Review

August 2008 — "I went to this restaurant for Fish and Chips in Victoria. It was great! The “restaurant” is more of a vendor that you purchase from and sit on outdoor stools overlooking the harbour in Victoria. The atmosphere as a result is very casual because you are sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine. The fish and chips are the classic deep fried version but they are very good. The portions are large (my husband and I shared 3 pieces of fish and an order of fries) and very filling. We ordered 2 pieces of halibut and one piece of salmon and we REALLY enjoyed the salmon. It was not too fishy tasting and it was cooked just right. The tarter sauce was very good as well. It tasted homemade. This restaurant did not offer a lot of variety, mainly just fish and chips although I did see grilled, unbreaded fish on the menu. The food prices were reasonable to slightly high but the food was certainly excellent and worth it. I hope to visit this fish and chip place again soon!"
