January 2011 — "When my mother-in-law was visiting from out of town, we were all craving some Indian food, but didn't feel like going to a restaurant. Instead we decided to order from Namskar, which is really close to our place. I am a bit nervous when eating several types of ethnic food because I have nut and shellfish allergies and I know that in Indian they use some nuts in their sauces. However, when ordering we made the allergies very clear and I was impressed with how seriously the restaurant took my allergies - even going as far as marking the two dishes we got with nuts as "With Nuts!" I think we ordered a little too much food, but it was nice to have so many dishes to choose from. I tried beef vindaloo, a curry lamb dish, a veggie dish with potatoes and spinach and some type of dal. The flavours in the sauces were very good and all dishes were quite spicy. I ate a bunch of garlic naan too, which was absolutely great. The two dishes I couldn't eat were both chicken and from what I heard they were also good. It had been a few years since I ate at Namskar, but I found it very good but was happy I didn't pay the bill because the takeout cost $110! We did get some free saffron rice with our order though, which was nice. I will definitely be eating at Namskar again."
May 2010 — "Namskar indian restaurant is the best and superb restaurant i would say if i compare to other indian restaurant in the city...Food was fantastic, speciallyt the butter chicken and the tandori mixed combo platter. The service was excellent. you get your money's worth ..the food presentation was excemptional.. i recommend this place to my other friends.
thank you namskar for the wondeful experienced me and my wife had there in your place... definetly , we're going back there again."
January 2010 — "From the very caring service to the superb food, this restaurant is fantastic. What a treat to have every dish prepared to perfection. Namskar is on the top of our list for a quiet dinner for my husband and I and for entertaining guests. We can count on Namskar to provide a wonderful experience."
January 2010 — "What a shame. That sums up my second visit to Namskar. I had the meat platter as the appetizer (tiny) and the lamb vindaloo for my main. The portions were good and I was really full by the end of the meal. The vindaloo was good too and was very spicy like I wanted it. I also tried the butter chicken and that was very creamy and tasty.
The service was some of the worst I've ever had. The waiter was confused and didn't know what was ordered. There were ridiculous long waits between getting the bill and the waiter coming back for us to pay. We just got up in the end and went to the front to pay. Our order arrived wrong but we kept it and a second order was ignored and never came. My first visit resulted in similar terrible service which leads me to believe that this is the norm at Namskar. The food is good. The service is consistently horrible. "
September 2009 — "Namskar is a restaurant I often pass on my commute down 16th Avenue but have never thought about stopping to go to until now. I came here on a Friday evening with a group of friends. The restaurant had a few people but wasn't too busy at all. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and has a good atmosphere. We ended up ordering 7 dishes to share so we could try out a bit of everything. These include butter chicken, chili chicken, egg plant, okra, beef, lamb, and fish. We also ordered butter, garlic and cheese naan and saffron rice. Overall, the dishes were all decent but I wouldn't say they were great compared with other Indian restaurants. The food was generally luke warm. When you factor in the cost being higher than other Indian restaurants with better tasting food, I would only recommend this restaurant if you happen to be in the area or if it's a convenient stop."
August 2009 — "I highly recommend Namskar. The food was superb and similar in price to other Indian restaraunts in cities similar to Calgary. Our service was efficient, friendly and conscientious to our dining needs. We will definitely entertain our out of town guests at Namskar again. "
March 2008 — "My wife and I go here all the time when we go out for Indian food which is at least once a month. The parking depending on how busy it is can be crappy but the food and service is always good. The prices are what you should expect for good food. They are not bad ranging from $8-$12 for appetizers and $13-$16 for main dishes. Their Korma is to die for! So good! If you go you won't be let down take my word for it."
January 2008 — "I'm lucky to have an employer in Calgary that gives the day off for American holidays as well as Canadian, so my wife and I went to Namskar for a leisurely lunch buffet on Martin Luther King Day. It was our first time there. I work downtown and figured that a restaurant way up on 16th Ave wouldn't be too busy. I guessed wrong: this was a popular lunch destination, but our server was still friendly and attentive.
The buffet was terrific. Great choices, great flavors. Unlike some buffets in Calgary, dishes were regularly refreshed and replenished from the kitchen.
My only complaint is that I ate WAY too much, and wanted to take a nap instead of enjoying my afternoon off from work. But I can't really fault the restaurant for making the food so delicious that I didn't want to stop eating! :-)"
July 2007 — "I've been here a couple times, mostly for the lunch buffet, but recently went for the a la carte experience. Although the food is good, and the ambiance is clean and updated, I found the service was not so great...very slow, and not just the time it took to prepare, but waiting for the bill, waiting to have water filled, etc. "
June 2007 — "In my opinion, Namskar has the best butter chicken in the city... their naan and pekora are great too. I keep returning for the quality of the food, but definitely not for the service. Both times I've gone recently the service has been slow and not very helpful or friendly... perhaps this is just one of those cross-culturaly things?!? I think the best solution might be take-out!"
Management Response:

February 2007 — "the server, whose name is Naaz(that's the name shown on my bill) had really bad attitide for the service. looked like only working for getting the tip from customer. i even saw he was asking for the tip from another customer while paying the bill!!!!!!

"Layers of Flavour"
Wendi
January 2007 — "Like most Indian restaurants in the city, Namskar is not cheap. We had three dishes, plus rice and naan, and a beer each and our bill came to $68. But the food is simply divine. We recently ordered food for take away for a group of people, ordering a dish per person, and it came to about $20 per person and we had more than enough food. The servings are generous--moreso than other Indian restaurants I've been to in the city. But most of all, the food is the best Indian I have ever had in my life. Even spicy dishes are not just hot--there is a depth of flavour, layers of flavour in fact. The butter chicken is wonderful, but so were all the other dishes. Dining in, it took a while for our food to come, that was the only downside, but the service was friendly and courteous and very genuine. The decor is pleasant. It used to be an Italian restaurant, and some of the same decor exists, such as grape leaves, but now there are Indian decorations throughout. We will definitely be back. It is worth making reservations as the restaurant was full the night we went."
October 2006 — "My family is East Indian, and this is where we go for a truly authentic, delicious meal. Namskar has a wonderful ambience, the servers are polite, pleasant, professional. We've eaten here countless times, and have never had a problem with poor quality food or service. Servings are a good size, beautifully presented and the spice levels can be adjusted if needed (milder or hotter). The restaurant is nicely lighted and always clean. You know an ethnic restaurant is good if there are people of that ethnicity go there to eat...and many do! Reservations not required, but recommended (especially for weekends.) You're going to love it - try the chicken tikka, butter chicken or kabobs. We love the sampler...it's all so delicious! 9/10 as there is always room for improvement in life!"
August 2006 — "This restaurant was ok. Probably one of ther better ones I've tried in Calgary but can't be compared to anything in Vancouver.
I took my mother in law here when she was visiting from Vancouver and all went fairly well except at the end. We all had leftovers that we asked to be packed up. The waiter informed us that there was a packing charge????? I think it was only a dollar each but I find this very un-proffessional. Shouldn't this be figured into business expenses? "
Management Response:
"hello,sir/madam, packing charges was only one dollar dosent matter you were ten people or 5 people,.charges was only one dollar per table in week ends we have a person only for take out and delevery packings and on the top of that he pack food at very busy time for almost all tables his wages & the cost of boxes. was that one dollar but no worrys we dont have those charges any more we will pack your food free .we stop that packing charges."
