July 2009 — "We had dinner at the River Cafe for our anniversary last night. Setting is as beautiful as any place in western canada. Service pleasant. Tomato salad and bread basket..wonderful.. flavorful and so fresh. just as we expeted.We arrived at 8:15..main course served at 9:30. Long awkward time between salad and main. When the main finally arrived it was very dark ..had to request candle..Came about 10 minutes after food arrived..Main was pleasant..not outstanding..felt like kitchen was trying to get food out and not concerned with flavor, tempature or sauces. We eat with our eyes first and not being able to see what we were eating effected the dining exprience..desert..creme brule..slightly burned. it seemed that sevice and kitchen got behind and just started trying to push food out..overall a beautiful location..food..okay"

June 2009 — "I loved the ambiance of the River Cafe! They have a simple, rustic decor yet it is very warm and inviting. I could see this being a great place for a romantic dinner. The food is fresh and delicious and they don't serve overly huge portions that leaving you feeling way too full."

June 2009 — "My wife's company took us all out for dinner to the River Cafe last month and it was absolutely delicious. We had two nice tables near the back of the restaurant and our own server and it was very welcoming. The River Cafe has a great selection of imported beers, so I tried a few. We had a set menu where we were served two appetizers (a salad and then eggplant bruschetta) and a choice of three mains - bison steak, a fish dish (sea bass I think) and a pork chop dish with mushroom sauce. The appetizers were outstanding and the cooks took the time to make sure that there were no nuts or shellfish (allergies) in any of the items. For my main I chose the bison steak and it was absolutely mouthwatering. The service throughout the evening was top-notch. Every time someone in our party of about 16 got up to go to the washroom, the server would quickly refold that person's napkin and place it on their chair. Drinks came easily and all the food honestly couldn't be better. I have always been a fan of River Cafe and this experience as part of a larger group function with a set menu definitely didn't disappoint."

December 2008 — "The River Café is situated on Princess Island Park and you have a lovely view overlooking the park especially in winter when it looks like a winter wonderland. Inside, the restaurant has fly fishing artifacts decorating the walls and is warm and cozy. We went there for a Christmas lunch and we were given a great table at the back of restaurant by the window. For starters, we shared the fish and game platter that included trout, bison and pork and also tried the red lentil humus on flatbread with garlic. For my main meal, I went with the Buffalo burger that is served with brie, bacon, Saskatoon berries and jelly. It is definitely a gourmet burger and was excellent. The restaurant advertises that the food served is organic and free-range and I was really impressed by the quality of the food. The Grilled Arctic char dish looked fantastic as well and I will have to try that next time. The food is not cheap with the burger costing $19 and the char $24 but as mentioned the quality is excellent and the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant makes for a great dining experience. "

October 2006 — "I know the River Cafe has been a top Calgary restaurant for years, but I have never been there before. I went for brunch there recently and now I understand what the fuss is about. They have an innovative menu, impecable service, classy decor, an unbeatable location and of course, delicious food. They even go to the trouble of hand making their own crackers! It isn't cheap, but with that level of attention to detail, the prices aren't out of line. I can't wait to go back again."

DescriptionRiver Cafe is located off the beaten path in Prince's Island Park and accessed only be pedestrian traffic (parking is available at Eau Claire Market). The restaurant offers regional fare such as Atlantic Lobster, Alberta Beef, Alberta Pork Tenderloin and Alberta Lamb. The menu is also seasonal, so it is updated often. Reservations are recommended.
