March 2012 — "The Keg always provides a good steak at a reasonable price. The Keg in Victoria did not disappoint. Even their basic top sirloin steak, with salad, vegetables, and mushrooms, costs only $26 before tax and tip. Their Caesar salad is always tasty, accentuated with zippy garlic and a slice of lemon. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. Each morsel was not spectacular but it is certainly good enough for the price, and there is about one mushroom for every bite-sized piece of meat. Service was solid. The location on Fort Street is great because it is right downtown on the edge of the harbour. The only problem is the parking situation. There is no longer free parking downtown that I am aware of, but there are plenty of pay parking lots available. Don't forget to add $5 to $10 for parking in your meal budget. The downtown Victoria Keg interior is nicer than Halifax's but not quite as nice as other locations like Calgary. As always, The Keg is a reliable place for a steak."

December 2009 — "I had the teriyaki steak here and liked it a lot. There's a hint of sweetness and the texture of the steak at medium was cooked right.
The ambiance was romantic and dim, but not too dark. We had a table next to the window with a view of the harbor. The staff is very professional and courteous, but may be my waiter was having a bad night or something. He accidentally spilled my drink right next to me and some of it got onto my clothing. He did one other thing but I can't remember what it was. I was surprised that we didn't get anything to make up for his mistakes, which we've gotten at other equally nice restaurants."

September 9 — "My husband and I arrived at the Keg at 8pm with no reservation. The wait for a table was 40 min or we could go into the lounge with no wait. We chose to go to the lounge and were seated at a table next to a fireplace. Our waitress was casual and friendly. We ordered some scallops and bacon to start while we made our dinner selections. Warm bread and whipped butter were served as well.
My husband chose the classic strip loin dinner. The accompanying caesar salad was actually quite disappointing with a taste reminiscent of garlic powder and too much salt. Our waitress was happy to exchange this for the house salad which was a colourful mixed salad of greens and veggies. The dressing on this salad was boring and somewhat salty as well. The steak was nicely cooked and the twice baked potato option was good.
I chose the sirloin oscar with rice pilaf instead of potato. The steak was cooked to perfection. The topping of bernaise sauce with asparagus and seafood was average with two spears of asparagus, one of which was stem only. The rice pilaf was very average and in contrast to the rest of the meal actually needed salt. We each had a glass of wine as a compliment to our dinner. Dessert was offered but the meals were filling as it was.
Although the service was good we both felt the quality of the meal did not add up to the cost and for this reason alone, it is not a destination we are anxious to rush back to."
