December 2007 — "If you've ever been to the Calgary Farmers' Market at the Currie Barracks, you might have come across a booth selling Indian and Thai food, both frozen and fresh. If you haven't stopped by for one of the 5 or so samples of their fresh curries, you should, you may very well find your favorite.
The samples are a great way to try something new without having to buy a whole meal. The only problem might be deciding which one, but they solve that with a combination offering. I had Butter Chicken AND Kuku Paka on a bed of basmati rice. I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed both curries, they were without comparison. The butter chicken is so rich and creamy with what looks like some herbs in it (Fenugreek leaves I was told). The butter chicken was only marginally better to my palate, maybe because I was enjoying the slightly spicier sauce than what was in the Kuku Paka. I sampled the lamb curry, Thai curry and the Mung Bean curry as well, they were all delicious. Perhaps I will get one of those the next time I visit, BUT, I was told that their menu changes every 2 to 3 weeks because the owners like to change it up and since they have such a small kitchen, it isn't practical to have a bigger fresh selection. The frozen selection of "heat and serve" curries may entice those that want a Nihari when it isn't on the fresh menu.
Now about the owners, I believe they are sisters, but I'm not sure, I will go again and find out. They are extremely pleasant, helpful and friendly while being quick to provide service. I highly recommend visiting them for both the food and the chance to talk to someone about Indian food. Apparently they cater and teach Indian/Thai cooking as well. The mango lassi will kill the heat if you can't handle some of the spicier dishes."
