August 2011 — "We needed a quick place to eat before heading back to Vancouver and decided to eat here. The walls are pink and two walls were covered entirely with mirrors. There was old vintage green carpet and royal Chinese style table setting. We ordered the won ton soup and mushroom egg drop soup which were fairly pricey compared to what I'm use to (around $6 each). It is usually an appetizer or a small side and fairly cheap at restaurants I have had it at before. It was very very slow to get our meals. My egg drop soup was very warming and a huge portion but a bit too salty. I then tried the won ton soup and it was super salty and only the lettuce and wontons were edible. It was like any regular wonton filled with just meat and no vegetables. Back to my mushroom egg drop soup, the mushrooms were thickly sliced and the eggs were very nice. It was a very creamy soup and the consistency was good, however the saltiness was very overpowering. "

September 2008 — "My husband, son & I were in Victoria shopping and we thought we would go somewhere quick for lunch. So we just happened to be in the Shelbourne area and had another errand in a little strip mall on Shelbourne. So we walked into this tiny place with maybe 10 tables. It was decorated with mirrors and interesting chinese decor. The table setting was simple with a stack of paper napkins in a glass, sitting on a tray with your soy sauce & salt and pepper. A couple of soup spoons were also on the table. No table clothes were used. The table and restaurant seemed clean. An elderly oriental man brought us tea in glasses right away, which I thought was strange because the glass was hot to hold. They had about 17 or so lunch specials written on 3 white boards hanging on the wall and when something was gone, It just got wiped away. Meals ranged from $6.50 to $7.50. I noticed in the corner of one of the board it stated a $1 would be added to each from 5pm - 9pm. I ordered a bowl of wonton with rice noodles. It came in a large bowl and was full to the rim with sprouts, won tons, onions, & lots of rice noodles. The flavour was very good. My husband ordered 2 dishes because he couldnt decide and was hungry. One was a ginger fried beef and the other a beef and green on a broad noodle dish. The portions were large and one would have been ample but he took the rest home. My son ordered Chicken curry. All was good and if in the area, we would probably go back. "

"Very Popular Spot"

December 2007 — "This little Chinese food restaurant is hard to find unless you know where you are going. It is located in a small strip mall on Shelbourne Street and the signage is not very conspicuous. It came highly recommended so I had to try it out. It is a very small place with about 10 tables. At lunch time it is very popular with local workers. They line up at the door and wait for a seat at any table. The menu is on the wall and offers a variety of about 10 dishes plus daily specials. Most people appeared to be regulars and knew what they wanted. My friend and I took a few minutes looking over the wall menu before deciding. The waitress had been over to take our order three times while we thought about it which was a surprise given how packed the place was. Once we ordered we were served tea in a clear glass. It was too hot to hold so we had to wait a bit for a sip and before the tea was cool, our food came. I ordered black bean chicken on rice. My friend order a shrimp bowl - curry shrimp on rice. It was good and the portion was a good size. The price was very good as well. This isn't a place to sit and chat with a friend especially if you come at the peak lunch period. They want to turnover the seating quickly and have no shortage of people waiting. Seating is very close so this is not a good place for a private chat. But it is good food, quickly served at a very decent price. If you need a quick lunch and like Chinese food - I would recommend Lin Heung's. "
