February 2011 — "Mikey's has an extensive menu ranging from appetizers to Po'Boy sandwiches and burgers, and full entrees. The prices are anywhere from around $5 and up for soups/salads to over $15 for entrees. It's a funny thing - they have a lot of choice for beer and hard liquor, but they only have a house white and red - I think Gato...they also only have one type of tea. I guess they want you drinkin' beer! I went to see some old friends play without intending to eat, but I heard people muttering around me how good the food was so I decided to give it a try. I had a huge bowl of soup - coconut chicken thai and also shared some roasted veggie bruschetta. Wow. The soup was amazing. Truly, the spices were wonderful (not too over the top but definitely hit the back of the throat) and the coconut was flavorful. The chicken was almost puree so the texture was different than what I'm used to - it almost tasted more like a creamy stew because it was so thick. Fantastic. The bruschetta was pretty good - maybe because I combined it with the soup it seemed a bit bland. I don't think I can really review it properly so I'll hold off. Mikey's is reasonably clean although the bathrooms always look like they are well-used (which they are) and the service is generally pretty good. A fun place with great soup; definitely give it a try. "

February 2011 — "Mikey's Juke Joint and Eatery is one of a few places in Calgary that has live music every day of the week. I went on Sunday afternoon and a very low key open stage/jam was underway. The special was Sweet Thai Chili Chicken Fajita for about ten dollars. It came with a small bowl of beef soup that was very much like a stew. The flavour was okay and there were plenty of chunks of meat and vegetables. The fajita was quite big and stuffed with big chunks of chicken, cheese and other fixings. The flavour of the Sweet Thai Chile sauce was delicious and it was spiced just right. I could have opted to have Sweet Potato fries instead of soup for an extra two dollars, but decided to stick with the soup. The menu also offers a lot of other meals. You have a choice of several Mexican dishes, some steak plates and a few salads and desserts. Based on the Fajita, I would be interested in trying some of the other dishes offered at Mikey's. "

May 2010 — "I usually go to Mikey's to see a band play, and I always have an amazing time regardless. Sure, it might be considered a bit of a dive, but it's got a really great vibe, and it's such a fun place to dance the night away. It's also a really friendly place -- the bartender introduces himself to everyone and seriously remembers your name whenever you go up there. I don't know how he does it, it's amazing. They have a good selection of beers with brews from Wildrose and import ones like Guinness.
If you get a chance to see a gig here, you should. It's just a small venue so it makes every gig seem really amazing and intimate. They keep a bit of an area clear for a dancefloor and it's really not enough room for everyone in the bar to shake their thang, but it's big enough -- just watch out for stray elbows. The bathrooms are a bit dodge but they're clean enough."
