September 2011 — "We have been going to Fonbos for as long as I can remember. I would say they are one of the better Chinese Restaurants in Victoria. Their vegetables and meat are always fresh. The place is usually pretty busy on weekends...we noticed a lot of people coming in for take-out. The staff knows us by name and even remembers what we like to eat, which is impressive. The portions are decent sized, and the prices are really reasonable. We definitely get more bang for the buck going to Fonbos for a dinner combo plate ( Which has 4 items ) compared to ordering a Bento Box from a Japanese Resataurant. I can always finish a Bento Box, but I can't always finish Fonbos dinner combo plate. "

November 2009 — "I have been a happy patron for years. I always pick up my order and haven't dined in. The owner and staff are consistently friendly and the food is prepared on time and freshly cooked. The quality of the food is excellent and in my opinion it is the best Chinese cuisine available in Victoria. Vegetables and seafood are consistently fresh and high quality. Pricing is also excellent, so Fonbo is great value.

December 2008 — "I have eaten at many Chinese Restaurants in many different places. From all over Canada, to overseas. I have never found a chinese restaurant that i like more than Fonbo's. I have been eating there since as long as I can remember, and I have since moved away from Victoria, but whenever I visit this is one restaurant I have to go to before I leave! It is one thing that I always look forward to, and it is always a treat! "

December 2008 — "My wife and I were looking for a place to eat supper on Christmas Eve, so we went online to look for a decent Chinese Restaurant. We hit up this very website, looking for a restaurant that had gotten good reviews, and were sold on Fonbo when we saw that it recieved unanimous praise from four reviewers. The restaurant had been recommended for the quality and quantity of it's food, as well as great customer service, so we were more than willing to ignore things like location (it's in a strip mall on the North end of town) and decor (hideous, yellow paint)for decent food at a decent price. We arrived and were seated by the pleasant waitstaff. The place was pretty crowded, with people coming and going the whole time we were there. The first thing we noticed was that the part of the restaurant we had been seated in was absolutely freezing. Granted, it was an unusually cold spell for Victoria, but there appaeraed to be no heat at all in our part of the restaurant. We were hungry, and the chill could be ignored, as long as we knew we had food coming. We ordered 3 dishes from a menu that consisted mostly of your typical western/chinese offerings. We ordered the house chow mein, beef with chinese greens and a chicken dish. To tell you the truth, I can't remember what the chicken dish was, because it was just not memorable...and the other two dishes were memorable only because they were so dissapointing. The Beef with Chinese Greens was about 8 small pieces of beef, sprinkled over a massive plate of Bok Choy, with a sweet sauce. The distinct lack of meat was almost laughable, as was the excess amount of Bok Choy. The House Chow Mein tasted all right, a little greasy, but passable...if they hadn't used canned mushrooms. I mean, how hard is it to cut up a couple mushrooms?!? Besides looking unappetizing, the mushrooms had the texture of rubber and very little taste. We left Fonbo feeling very dissapointed. Neither of us even wanted to eat the leftovers the next day, and usually we are fighting over leftover Chinese. In a city with so many decent to great restaurants, it's a miracle this place has been around so long. It's also a miracle that the four other people that reviewed it previously, thought it was so good."

October 2008 — "I gauge my Chinese food dining experiences on quality, quantity, and cost. Decor doesn't matter too much to me as I am there to enjoy the food.
The menu selection is diverse and offers all the standard things you'd hope to find on the menu. I was able to swap items in combinations even though "I wasn't supposed to" and the food came out in large quantities and tasting great. The staff was very friendly and pleasant and by seeing the interactions of the owner with the customers, you could tell people went back there often as she knew many of the customers by name. Overall, a great eating experience."

April 2008 — "I have been eating at Fonbo's restaurant for many years. Like many other customers I keep returning because the food is good and the plates full, but most of all because of the staff. From my first visit the owner remembered my name! Sometimes it is obviously too busy, but she tries to take a moment with her customers to say hello and always remembers and inquires about something specific about you...a tremendous memory. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal or a bad experience at Fonbos. I take all of my friends there and I strongly recommend it to everyone. "

October 2007 — "Fonbos is a chinese food restaurant located in the Royal Oak Shopping Centre. I gather from talking to the owner, they have been there for many years and certainly appeared to be a popular spot for local residents. We were there for lunch and the place was almost full. There is a regular menu but the combo plates are what interested us. From a selelction of 6 options, you can pick four or choose from the special board for combos like ginger beef on rice with egg roll or wonton soup. My daughter ordered a different combination plate than I did so we got to try as much as possible. I had sweet and sour pork, rice, chow mein and almond chicken. My daughter had deep fried prawns, sweet and sour chicken gai ding and rice. The portions were big and I wasn't able to eat it all and the prices seemed reasonable for what we got. This is not a fancy place but the service was good and the staff friendly. We agreed we would try it again."
