January 2012 — "This is a family style pub in a charming building with a Tudor decor. We went for dinner on a Monday right after New Years and the place was not too busy. The menu has a good selection of items to choose from. We requested that they put the hockey game on TV for us, well for my husband actually, and they kindly obliged. The Shitake mushroom stir fry is really delicious and the veges are done to perfection.... still a bit crunchy and lots of flavor. It was served on a bed of noodles. My husband ordered the cheddar bacon burger with Caesar salad which he thoroughly enjoyed. I was surprised at how fast the food arrived. Make sure you do not park on Gladstone Ave. in the residential only zone as they ticket your car really fast. It makes for a very expensive dinner. We would go back and try this place again, perhaps on a night when they have live music."

"Great Pub Grub"

August 2011 — "From the exterior, you're definitely drawn in to see more of what the Fernwood Inn has to offer and you're certainly pleased on the inside as well. A nice pub setting, it had a large selection of beer and drinks to choose from which is always what you want in a good pub. Ordered the poutine was dangerous, as we have high standards coming for Ottawa and Montreal, where poutine is a specialty. While these regions are hard to beat in the poutine market, this one came close to best outside the area. My friends who ate the dessert were equally impressed with their sugary treats. My disappointments were the extremely slow service and the pricing was a little more than I would have expected or liked. It would be a return location for me though when I need a good pub."

"Excellent atmosphere and staff, reasonable food"

September 2010 — "The success of the Fernwood Inn can be attested to by the sheer vibe it has created in the neighbourhood. The atmosphere is very cozy and warm, complimented by a friendly and efficient staff. The food is satisfactory and the menu diverse (for a pub). Prices are reasonable for Victoria, though certainly not a bargain. The tuna tataki is an immediate energy boost and always done to perfection; the halibut burger ranks amongst my top 2 in town. Yam fries are great to share. I know some who like the chicken strips, though I think they could be spiced up a bit. I recommend stopping in because it just plain feels good inside, especially with a glass of vino. Beware of weekends and post-Belfry theatre times, as it will be packed and seating becomes difficult if there are large party bookings. Be absolutely certain to visit the back room and check out the latest art work. Check ahead for live music or open mic nights (not in the main dining room). And definitely give the patio a whirl in the summer-time. "

"Blue Buck and Wings"

July 2010 — "As a native Fernwoodian, there are few things I celebrate more than having the opportunity to sit back with a Blue Buck beer and an order of wings, right in my own neighborhood, on a sunny summer afternoon. The Fernwood Inn’s outdoor patio offers up this very experience. Most recently I enjoyed the hotwings, which were not as hot as I would have liked, but decent nonetheless. While the wings may not be the very best, and the varieties are few, they are solid and not overly greasy and go down very well with the Blue Buck, which I would argue is the best microbrewed beer local to Victoria. The prices at the Inn are reasonable though not the major selling point of the experience. The service staff, dressed so readily in black, is friendly and helpful, and has always found a way to meet my needs, whether that has meant finding a high chair for my little girl, or a quieter table for my elderly parents and me. "Could be Better"

December 2009 — "I live in the neighborhood, so I've been to the Fernwood Inn a couple of times. I like the place, and haven't had a particularly bad experience there, but I have to say that it's not as good as it should be. Located at the heart of Fernwood's village core, in a really funky old building, it should be a unique, fun place with live performances, and maybe a big old patio overtop the pubs lousy parking lot. But instead you get an awkward floor plan, kitschy decor, and a very uniform clientele. The service is alright, like I said I haven't had a bad experience, but it's nothing to get excited over. Unfortunately, the same could be said for the burger. I love a good burger, and its generally what I eat at a pub, but I was not impressed by the burger I had there. Maybe I was there on an off night. It would be worth it to go and try again though, as the Fernwood Inn does have a some promise."

"Cosy Pub"

February 2009 — "The Fernwood Inn is located inside a striking tudor style themed building in the heart of Fernwood Village. It is impossible to miss with its pale orange/yellow and black colour scheme and looked so inviting, we had to go in and give it a try. Lovers of an English style pub will feel right at home in the pub and there is a restaurant to the side of the pub as well as an outside patio area. We sat in a booth alongside the window that gave us a great view onto Fernwood street. There is a wide selection of beers including local micro brews. I would recommend the Glanville Island winter ale that had a distinctive toffee nut finish. The menu is varied and the menu specifies that they use locally sourced organic products. There is also a Sunday brunch available and I am sure this is going to become one of my favourite pubs in Victoria."

"Very Friendly Service"

July 2007 — "Last night my husband and I were at the Fernwood market and needed to grab a bite to eat. We passed by the Fernwood Inn and they were advertising a burger and beer special for about $9. Perfect! So in we went. It was a really nice, clean, updated pub with a nice atmosphere. Our server was super friendly and our burgers and beers came very quickly. The special included a beer and burger only so we decided to also split some yam fries. They were very tasty. The burger came with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion and a special sauce. My husband really enjoyed his, but I felt there was something missing that I still can’t put my finger on. I think it may have been that the beef didn’t taste seasoned at all, just charbroiled ground beef. I’m not sure, but I wasn’t overly impressed with the burger, I enjoyed everything else though. The beer was good but the special included Molson Canadian only and if you wanted something else you had to pay an extra $2 to upgrade. All in all it was a good dining experience and it was fun to watch the people at the market across the street. There was quite a bit of action for a Tuesday night. I would definitely recommend the Fernwood Inn and I’d like to go back and try something else because everything they were bringing out of the kitchen looked and smelled great! And I was very impressed with our server and how friendly and quick she was. "
