January 2010 — "This eye-catching little spot is well worth a visit; the portions are huge (they seem bigger if you eat in than take out, mind you), and the food is fantastic. I love all kinds of Asian foods, but often take out noodle places can rely too heavy on syrupy, sugary, corn-starchy sauces. Not so here. The Thai Green curry tasted deliciously of lime and coconut, and I always felt like I was eating real food, not candy. I especially enjoyed the decor, and free water is provided from a cute little tap with a pool of rocks underneath. They also serve alcohol, although we did not partake this time. I would be more than happy to eat here again."

"Plagued by Inconsistency"

Save Review

October 2009 — "I live a block away from the Fisgard location so, needless to say, I've eaten here countless times. In fact, I went last night. Overall, I'm really pleased with the quality of service and food at Noodle Box. Perhaps their biggest problem is inconsistency. For example, sometimes "medium" spicy sets my mouth on fire, and other times it merely warms my palate. Last night's meal, Singapore Cashew Curry, was just right spicy-wise, but the chicken (I didn't get the premium) was a bit dodgy. By that I mean it was all brown meat and chunks were clumped together with tendons or whatever that is (???). On the plus side, it had lots of flavour and they didn't skimp on the cashews. Will I go back? Of course. Am I blown away by the flavour and value like I used to be? Nope."

"An old favourite fails me"

August 2009 — "I used to love the Noodle Box. A devotee of theirs since they had a small cart in Chinatown, I nearly wept with joy when they opened stores in Vancouver, where I was living some years later. So when I came back to Victoria last year, it went without saying that I would hit the flagship location on Fisgard regularly - or so I thought. I don't know if they feel they are so popular now that they just don't have to bother trying anymore, but the last few times I ordered from them left me with a bad taste in my mouth, both figuratively and literally. The young lady working the till most weekdays is just too cool to be polite, or even deign to wait on clientele standing right in front of her unless it's on her own good time. When I called in an order in advance, she put me on hold for a good 10 minutes - BEFORE telling me the next pickup would be 45 minutes away. And what reward in persisting to get food despite this? Well, it's just not as good as it used to be. Both my partner and I felt our Thai Chowmein and Spicy Peanut noodles lacked in flavour. We've had them innumerable times, and it just seems that increasingly, it's noodle without as much meat and condiments. At $10-15 a box (and much more if you want "premium" chicken), lightly sauced noodles just doesn't cut it. Several bad experiences later, I am ready to find a new noodle house. What a shame."

"Couldn't ask for more"

July 2009 — "This is by far my favorite quick restaurant in Victoria. It is a South-East Asian noodle take out restaurant that will also end up on your favorites list. I have probably had most everything on the menu, and have enjoyed them all. On my last visit, I again picked up my favorite, Thai-Style Chow Mein which seems to always satisfy. You can get your choice of meat or combination them with most dishes, as well as choosing between about 10 different levels of heat. As a spice lover, this really is heaven, where I have now ventured on to "hot" from "medium-hot" which is about a 7/10. They also have a good asian beer selection, which do of course go hand in hand with spicy noodles. The price is also fair, where $10 will get you a meal and maybe tomorrows lunch depending on your appetite. They have two locations, where the one on Douglas has a few more seats then on Fisgard. It is usually quite busy at lunch and dinner, so sometimes a good idea to call and order ahead for pickup. Enjoy!"

"Best Noodle Place in Town"

Save Review

April 2009 — "The Noodle Box is definitely one of the best places in town to have Asian noodles. Officially billed as the "South-East Asian Noodle Bar: a Fresh, Fun, Fiery Experience", this is an apt name. As regulars at the Noodle Box, the food is consistently fresh and of high quality. The noodles are served in little boxes which can easily be closed up and taken to go. The serving sizes are decent, so this is a nice bonus for days when you'd like to save some for later. The appetizers are delicious. I love the Malay Roti Bread and the Vietnamese Spring Rolls. They serve several different Asian curries. The Thai Green Curry with the coconut milk smells wonderful and tastes just as good. If you like lamb, the Malay Lamb Curry is quite good as well. The curries can be served on your choice of noodles or rice. I've also tried the Teriyaki Noodle Box with the udon noodles and while I've had better teriyaki in Japanese restaurants, this one is pretty good, full of veggies and sprouts. The rest of the stirfrys are also quite nice. Watch out for the spicy dishes which can be quite hot. In fact, I'd say that their mild is really a medium and their medium is really quite hot. Seating area is simply and it's all self-serve. Staff are friendly and they are always knowledgeable about their food. A great place for a quick bite and you can usually get in and out in under 45 minutes."

"Delicious Food!"

October 2008 — "Finally, a place to get real food in a take out box, just like on Friends! This restaurant is a South-East Asian Noodle Bar that offers very fresh and mostly local food. They also will cater to any changes made to the original menu. You can add more of one thing, remove certain items, alter the spiciness, etc. I was out with a friend and we ordered the Singapore Cashew Curry and the Malaysian Lamb Curry. Both were perfect and the portions were quite large; enough to take some home for lunch the next day! It's been awhile since I'd eaten at the Noodle Box and realized they're now licensed which we took advantage of. Without the beers, the dishes ranged from $10-$14 without the tip. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody wanting to try out fresh, healthy and tasty food! Plus, in Victoria, they've got two locations and one in Vancouver."

"Fast with great flavour"

August 2008 — "A friend & I were downtown and decided to have a late lunch, but did not have alot of time. We managed to find a metered parking spot right in front of this tiny place at 626 Fisgard near China town. It is a small narrow restaurant with a few tables for eating inside. They had a couple of bistro tables & chairs outside which we chose to eat at and enjoy the sunshine. It proved to be very popular creating a short line up at the counter where you order. They were licensed and had a nice selection of bottled beers from a local brewery which were also on special for $4. We both had the spicy peanut noodle box with chicken. ($8.) They ask you how hot you would like it as well. We both ordered medium. The grill & wok are right behind the counter and you can watch them quickly cook your meal. In approximately five minutes it was ready and served very hot in a cardboard box with the metal handles. I ate what I could and took home the leftovers. I found the combination of chicken, peanuts, coconut, cilantro and lime with just right amount of spice was perfect. The portions were very generous. I also noted how enviromentally friendly they were with separate receptacles for the customers to recycle their garbage. The staff were very relaxed and friendly. Good fast food at a great price. "

"Spicy"

March 2008 — "We were hanging out with some new locals who suggested we try this spot they had recently discovered, the Noodle Box. We visited the Fisgard street location and one's first impression is of a funky and trendy diner with the lime green walls and the electronic beats from the stereo system. You order at the counter and there are a few tables inside and your food is served in a convenient easy to carry box. I ordered the chicken dish and went with the mild sauce while my companions all went with medium sauce. While we were waiting, we were treated to the chef flipping the sauce bottle like a barman would flip his liquor bottle as he was preparing the meals. We would deduce something from this later. The food is prepared quickly and we sat down inside to enjoy our meal. I was a bit disappointed as there was not too much chicken in my dish and it started getting spicier after each mouthful. After a few sips of water, I was on my way again but all four of us thought our meals were a bit too spicy and then after trying each others meal realized there was no difference between mild and medium, it was plain spicy. We deduced the chef was quite enjoying putting on his 'flaring show' and perhaps the meals were a bit spicier than usual. I don't think I will go back but I will tell friends and family to give it a try as it is a great idea and reasonably priced at an average of about $10 per meal."

"Giant Bowls of Burning Goodness"
Image

Save Review

January 2008 — "I recently moved to Victoria and as a result have been on a week long binge of eating out at all the new restaurants. The Noodle Box on Fisgard has most certainly stuck out in my mind as one of the best I have tried. It's a cool little place that probably couldn't seat much more than 20 people, but boy are they busy. Maybe a little too busy as it took a very long time for us to get our orders. The wait was worth it though as the giant bowls of food were very very tasty. As a warning, I started off with the medium spicy and it was borderline dangerous for my taste buds. If your not big on hot'n spicy food be weary of anything hotter."

"So good..."

January 2008 — "Oh Noodle Box, how I love thee. This is probably one of the best restaurants in Victoria if you're looking for a not-too-expensive and tasty meal. I've been to the Fisgard location many times, and have yet to find fault with anything they do. The atmosphere is great, the service is good, and the food is simply delicious. I once ordered my meal 'hot' and it delivered too much heat -- 'medium' is about right if you like spicy without the burn. "
