July 2009 — "A friend of mine & I were meeting for lunch, and found ourselves craving sushi. Neither of us had tried Kaz before, but the location was right so we gave it a shot.
This small Japanese bistro is located on Wharf Street. a few doors down from Swans. The decor is typical of most sushi places, and it was empty when I arrived this Thursday afternoon.
We ordered a spicy tuna sashimi, a couple of rolls, and miso soup apiece. The vegetable roll and tunacado (my favorite) were pretty standard fare, not particularly flavourful but unoffensive. The sashimi was fresh and had a tasty sauce, but the portion was neglible for the $11 price tag. It was a modest lunch that totalled a not-so-modest $27, and we both left feeling "ok, but I'm not rushing back anytime soon".

February 2009 — "Kaz is a restaurant serving Japanese food cooked by a Chinese chef. A couple of us decided to go there and it was my first time. I have no idea how long they've been there but there were only four of us for the entire time we were there for lunch on a Thursday. We got a window seat, which was pleasant as they're situated on Wharf Street, near China Town, and you can look out into the Victoria Harbour.
The waitress was nice and the service efficient. I ordered the salmoncado roll and miso soup and my friend ordered the some rolls with lobster and a small cold spinach and sesame seed dish. The service was quick but I found the food to be odd tasting. My miso soup tasted a bit like chicken soup and the salmon was very 'fishy' tasting. Too strong like it had been sitting around for too long and had gone bad. My friend enjoyed her meal but we both noticed they charge more at this restaurant for the exact same thing served at other restaurants in town.
I've been to many Japanese restaurants in Victoria and would return to most of them but not this one. If you want to people watch, it's a good place but not if you want to enjoy delicious sushi."
