April 2009 — "I've a few times now to the Black Stilt and love its artsy, studenty vibe. It's a relaxed coffee shop and always has student study groups, with individuals on lap tops. The staff has always been efficient, and there are actually enough staff on to cope with the volumes of people. When I've been, it has always been busy--attesting to the fact that this is a good coffee shop. A couple of times I have been, it has been for poetry readings that take place in the fall and winter months, hosted by Victoria poet Wendy Morton. There are always local poets for the open mic (and there are some talents in the city!) and then readings from some prescheduled renowned poets. I guess the event has been going on for over a decade! I've had tea here, which is available by the pot or cup. And it is loose leaf tea, allowing for an abundance of flavour. There's a good selection of baked goods (I recommend the filling and chololatey brownie), coffees and sodas."
