"Best Milkshakes Ever!"

February 2011 — "The Beacon Drive In on Douglas Street is a great place for good old fashion hamburgers and milkshakes! It be considered a real class "joint". As we walked to Dallas Road we passed by the old drive in which is now a sit down restaurant, but you can also walk up to the ordering window to take out or sit on the picnic tables or across the street is a great big park by the Ocean. The menu is fantastic for true drive in comfort foods and really reasonably prices. Hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, corn dogs, and around five dollars! Need I say more? The staff is so friendly; you can tell they love what they are doing. I watched one of the staff make a chocolate dipped cone for an elderly man; I think she was more excited making the ice cream cone than the man who ordered it. I tried the chicken burger and my husband had the hamburger, simple ingredients and condiments, it was one of the best chicken burgers I've had, so simple and delicious! Of course we had a chocolate milkshake and it’s not just frozen ice cream with chocolate sauce. It’s chocolate ice cream in a milkshake machine, so thick and the first sip took me back to when I was a little girl trying a chocolate milkshake for the first time. If you only go for the milkshakes that's reason enough to visit the Beacon Drive In. I highly recommend this hidden gem old drive in, I can’t wait to go back for the strawberry milkshake! "

"Grab Your Food and Eat it in the Park"

August 2010 — "I was visiting Victoria at the end of August and had my little dog with me so was limited where I could eat. I was walking my dog in beautiful Beacon Hill Park and started to get hungry. Luckily I stumbled upon the Beacon Drive-In, located just across the street from the park. I walked up to the take-out window and ordered myself a turkey sandwich with fries and cole slaw. I waited for a short while and chatted with others in the line up who told me I had to try the soft-serve ice cream for desert. I took my lunch back over the park, tied my dog to a tree and set myself up for a little picnic. The sandwich was filled with moist turkey, lettuce and cheese between two pieces of soft white bread. It was a beautiful, warm day so I went back after I had finished my lunch and ordered a vanilla ice-cream cone. It was creamy and delicious! One of the tastiest I've ever had. In addition to the take-out window, the restaurant also has seats inside and a small patio overlooking the park. "

"Not the best fries ever"

January 2010 — "As adorable as the drive-in idea is, you can't expect too much from fast food. But they should at least have great fries! Sadly, the food was a little on the terrible side, and the service wasn't the best either. I think the girls behind the counter were just bored; it is off season after all. That said, it was still pretty busy in the middle of the afternoon... My instincts say not to go back. My heart says give them a shot. Maybe next time I'll try a milkshake or something."

"Best Ice Cream in town!"
Image

Save Review

September 2009 — "We are regular visitors to the Beacon Drive In. It has a great reputation for the yummiest Ice Cream in town! Soft Serve and delicious! There are many different choices of soft serve styles..such as Sundaes, sundaes with nuts, dipped cones, floats, Chocolate sauce, strawberry, butterscotch, the menu is almost overwhelming..all the classics. You can get all kinds of food at the Drive in, however the meals...ie: hot dogs, burgers, fries and chili are WAY over priced...and not very good. I would not recommend going for a meal. (I visited the restaurant once with a friend and his daughter, we each got a Soda pop and a hot dog....the total was over $30!) The line up is always down the road, but the service is pretty fast. So don't go if you are in a hurry. We love to drop by for some ice cream after a day at Beacon hill Park, right around the corner. The atmosphere is good, and there is lots of views to take in while enjoying your cone! "

"Great Ice Cream...but that's about it."

January 2009 — "My wife and I love hamburgers. We like a decent pub burger, but we're always on the lookout for a good, non-chain, fast food burger. Sadly, Victoria hasn't delivered yet. We had eaten at the Beacon Drive-In a couple years ago, before we'd actually moved to Victoria, and honestly, we were disappointed. Since we moved here, we have been back many times for the soft serve Ice Cream (the best soft serve in town!), but never for a meal. Well, after finding a two for one coupon in a local paper, we thought we may as well give it another chance. We hit the drive-in around supper time on a weeknight, and it was dead. We ordered a couple burgers and some onion rings, and it was all ready in short order. Once again, we were disappointied with the burgers. Boring, generic, fast-food buns with flavorless, pre-frozen patties and minimal condiments. Definitely a forgetable burger. I looked to the onion rings for some flavor, but there were so few of them (probably about 7 rings knocking around in the cardboard carton thingy) that, between the two of us, we barely got a taste. All of this mediocrity...and not even at a bargain price. Even with the coupon, our bill came to $10+, and that's for a couple of lack-luster hamburgers and a handful of onion rings. At our favorite place in Calgary we were able to get two really tasty burgers with enough onion rings and a pop, for $8.50...and that was just our favorite place...we had our pick of at least 3 other places that were almost as good for a similar price. OK, I know that the Beacon Drive-In has been in business for ages, but they are not going to stay in business much longer serving boring burgers at their prices. Their Ice Cream is great, and we'll be back (often) for a couple of cones. It would just be great if their food was just as good."
