September 2010 — "I think this is one of two Sushi Kai restaurants in Calgary. I went to the one on 14th Street N.W. in Kensington. This restaurant had about a dozen tables and was tastefully decorated. The first thing I noticed walking in was the music. Why are they blasting up Chinese music in a Japanese restaurant? This made it really difficult to sit through the meal because the music was so loud and was really not the best selection either. The sushi and rolls tasted OK. The ramen was pretty good but did not taste like any ramen I've ever had. The pork was highly seasoned and there were garlic flakes and some kind of preserved vegetable in it. Anyway, overall, I can't imagine this restaurant being a hit with Japanese food lovers. I would definitely give this restaurant a miss and recommend you go down the block to the other Japanese restaurants."

January 2010 — "Having seen various advertisements and heard many good things out Sushi Kai, we made a trip over to see what the fuss was about. It truly proved, you shouldn't believe everything you read in the newspapers. Spending more on the ads will get customers in the door, but this customer won't be going back. Our lunch menu consisted of an appetizer, the takkoyaki balls (octopus balls) the special sushi platter and some individual sushi pieces. I was not immersed by the octopus balls. the batter pretty much made the small piece of octopus disappear and transformed everything into a pile of mush in my mouth. I object future patrons from ordering this dish! Our sushi platter came with a good number of sushi pieces and a soup as well as salad. Yes, they were free but it doesn't mean that you could just give a customer salt water and the head of the lettuce in my salad! I was shocked and offended when I looked down at my salad bowl to see the salad head buried under more greens, as if I wouldn't notice it was there. I don't think I will be having any meals here again. The sushi pieces were alright, but definitely nothing I couldn't get at any other place. "
